Life time battery.

After five years my battery finally died yesterday. I checked through the car purchase paper work and confirmed that the battery had a lifetime guarantee. I found a supplier for Unipart batteries and checked they had one in stock. I was half expecting there to be some loop hole so they could get out of giving me a free replacement, as the conditions in the small print were extensive. After a quick electrical check the five year old unit came up as unserviceable. The new battery was fitted in a couple of minutes and I was on my way at no cost.

I had forgotten how quickly the engine turned over on a good battery. No more “click – click” in the morning or in car parks.

I don’t know how much Unipart Lifetime batteries cost as I got mine with the car. I thought this info would be useful given the number of MKIV batteries going down at the present time.

The only catch in those "lifetime gaurantees" is its the lifetime that you own the car - they're non transferable. as most people own a car for 3 - 4 years, its a winner for the shop. Unfortunately my dad owned his last car for 27 years and had 10 new batteries on it. Last time he had it changed they bought him out of the contract with £40 worth of vouchers.
