I sliced the pink wire from the plug into the blue red wire .this has worked for a long time now . but others say splice the loom side pink wire into the blue red ,when I did this my my speedo was all over the place. and now I have the same problem again GRRR! Shane
No.1 sensor provides signal for the speedo and odo, its buffered in the odo and then gets back to the ecu after buffering or not if as in your case the pink wire mod is in place and the simple buffer circuit is bypassed. What I have discovered is that the reason it goes back to the ecu was a fail safe mechanism built in by Mr T so if the speed sensor No.2 fails, instead of leaving you stranded the ecu gets enough info from No1 to get you home. So with that in mind, if the ecu doesn't see what it's expecting from No1 it wants you to know and you get code 42. As you have no speedo, I would be looking at the output from No1 sensor first.
