blythmrk
Ok I have finally removed the back plate off my whining B03B diff to see what is going on all the teeth are present and look ok so it’s probally the bearings. My first observation is this is a non standard lsd it looks like a Trd one from pictures I can find online can anyone help identify this please or any markings that I should look for? I know it’s not oem as I have a spare lsd big case diff that came out of an oem car (sheefas old silver car) and also I have just sold a b04d diff that looked exactly like my spare lsd again oem (the purchaser wanted to check everything was in order inside) The crown wheel measures 220mm but how many teeth should the 3.266 ratio pinion have? Thanks in advance
phobos
The LSD is for sure no stock, as you can clearly see it's a clutch type rather than a Torsen. As the LSD housing ist cast iron I'd assume it's TRD, but that is only my assumption without ever having seen an actual TRD. Regarding the ratio: just count both the pinion and crown wheel teeth, then you have your ratio.
Scooter
Some good pics here to compare to http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?291987-Urgent-Diff-ID-and-advise-(UPDATED-pics)&highlight=diff
blythmrk
Thank you all for your replies Scooter, phobos & Sheefa. The consensus is that I have a TRD big case (220mm) diff, but I will swap this out for my spare oem diff when I rebuild it in the near future. The whining is probably caused by worn bearings as the crown and pinion look ok and its not the TRD diff itself as it whines in a straight line. phobos
Since you have already opened the diff, check the gear lash (pinion to crown wheel).
Chris Wilson
If you post a decent photo of the spider shaft I can tell you if it's a way to or a 2 way. It's definitely a TRD centre. Whining is usually incorrect backlash / prload
