There was a thread in 2009 that asked and discussed the levels of membership and seeing that's coming up to 10 years ago may as well post up for the archive the past figures alongside present:

2009

Paid members 1568

Active forum member 2750

Total registered 24k

2018

Paid members ????

Active forum members 780

Total registered 50k

Reading around the topic of increasingly inactive forum membership across all subject matters the best guess anyone ever came up with is when the active posting membership falls below 50 individuals you lose critical mass and its time to put the forum to bed as a anything other than a valuable archive reference area for as long as that forum remains hosted.

At that rate of decline the forum has got a couple decades left in it then which is good.

Nowadays forums in general are becoming less active because young people prefer general interest collectives (e.g. reddit), or social media (instagram and facebook). More users but less specialist discussion.

I don't use facebook any more because I don't want them giving my personal information to everyone, so I'm still here.

P.s. you can come wash my car as well if you want :)

To be honest it’s not surprising is it ? The number of cars in the country has been declining for a very long time as the number exported, scrapped or written off outweighs the number being imported. I’ve heard that the stock levels in japan have gotten so low and prices so high that it might be become more feasible for the Japanese to import them back in. Not to forget the potential for stock to start moving over the pond.

So expect numbers to keep declining as they become more and more valuable and people cash in. Eventually most of the cars will belong to collectors.

Do you want to come wash my car? Seems you have way too much time on your hands.

The great Sunday pastime for those with too much time. I didn't get around to doing mine yesterday, tackling instead a pinion oil seal on my old MGB.

The decline of forums should prod users to harvest all the information they need or are ever likely to need as one day they will disappear when hosting isn't renewed. I've used my time, effectively I think, to pdf file print or copy any threads or technical reference materials from this and other Supra forums that I am ever likely to need and anyone planning long term ownership wouldn't be doing themselves any harm by doing likewise.

He does have a valid point on this occasion.

I recall the old Supra NA-T forum closing and a whole wealth of valuable info was at worst lost and at best hard to find elsewhere. But, I hope in our case as Jim suggests we are good for a while with the current level of activity and fresh membership.

I think with Branners owning this place for so long and being in some way in IT (I think?) that we'd at the very least get advanced warning or any such event but then I spose it doesn't hurt to backup stuff.

Perhaps we could get a sticky going (or add to one) with current links to any useful off site sources too, as they certainly have sometimes been lost (like the photobucket issue where we could get them back but it was a warning?),
