Dnk
Had brain fade yesterday and think i've possibly gone through 4 of the HADECS 3 cameras on the M42 above the speed limit, not by a silly amount but enough, possibly up to 10 mph over These would have been in a stretch 15 miles in length on the northbound side from J3A to J9 I'm guessing if i have i'll get a NIP for each one and potentially banned if given 3 points for each Clean license previously for i think getting on for 10 years and nothing worse than speeding 3 points offences before that Edited October 8, 2018 by Dnk (see edit history)
evinX
Hopefully nothing shows up. But this is why people need to take driving more seriously and just stick to the limits. Its not that hard.

Empty motorway and easily done but yes stick to limits and no problems, i had no reason to be going any quicker and was just going to view a motorcycle, i'm very annoyed at myself for sure
jamesmark
Are those cameras on M42 never off? any time I have driven on M42 the smart motorway is always active regardless of traffic conditions.

The overhead cameras on most of the gantries have been removed, they have been replaced with ones on the side of the gantries. For some reason i'd totally forgotten about this hence my concern Could be a painful lesson learned but i only have myself to blame Edited September 25, 2018 by Dnk (see edit history)
Scooter
I have heard this both ways, ie one where the person gets them both/all and one where they plead that they didn't get a chance to adjust their driving. I hope you get none, but if you do I hope it's only one!

Cheers yes i'm hoping i'm wrong but not convinced i'll be that lucky, i've read where a case pretty much the same the driver got only 1 punishment as the offence was all on the same stretch of rd and withing minutes of each other
Scooter
Yes I think they do (should?) give you a chance to reform/adjust by giving you the one penalty, after all scientifically speeding you are speeding infinite times in the 20-30m's you are caught by one camera! Best of luck, I got a unmarked blue light flash and hand pointing at me as I came off my slip months ago and had a nervous couple of weeks but nothing came of it, I don't think they were traffic just wanted to scare me (worked!) as I was making progress (72 perhaps 73 for EvinX) Edited September 25, 2018 by Scooter (see edit history)

On autopilot in tthe supra and just realised I had blasted through a few... Heard nothing after the waiting period so my belief is they are not all always working; sometimes there will be downtime or even dummy cameras and they will never divulge which scenario as people just tend to obey them. So I would expect one ticket at worst to be honest, but then Im an optimist Just in case this is a useful place for advice, http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=

and1c
My usual benchmark is 'was the traffic flow moving around the same speed' or was I the loner!!!

Dnk
My usual benchmark is 'was the traffic flow moving around the same speed' or was I the loner!!! The one spot it was definitely slower as there was a build up of cars in all 3 lanes, that was where the 3 rd camera is sighted, i've used google maps to find them all. The other 3 camera locations i'm pretty sure were rather empty hence my concern
mc92
I think my speedo must be a little slow after I replaced the dial faces, I've gone through a few on the M25/M4 with indicated speed over 70 and never heard anything of it, it's easy to do on a long trip. They have big yellow boxes to the left of the gantry. I always drive like an old man in built up areas though What really grinds my gears is when the motorway has those temporary 40 limits on the gantries and everyone is going 70. I'm pretty sure the cameras will get you for that too even if it's safer to go with the flow.

marc_p
They are only on when a speed limit is displayed though (at least I hope so as I'm always going through them at a higher speed). Was a speed displayed?
jamesmark
The classic government money traps! Fingers crossed mate. Well it is not really is it? A fine is a by product of someone breaking the law. There has to be a level of deterrent or every tit that thinks he or she is the Stig will be speeding. But I do disagree with it going to our government, should be paid back into the police force or schemes to improve our roads and safety of them. They should ANPR every single road and catch drivers without any insurance, Tax or MOT. Massive bloody overhead going to those properties and towing the car but fook it, sell the cars at auction. Kick them right in the nuts.

Was a speed displayed? I didn't know that, would that be the same for the earlier type that sit above each lane as well ? i thought they were always on to be honest. 60 was the displayed on the gantries and i think i was doing sub 70 but over

Kick them right in the nuts. It's a trap in the sense that they do very little to promote road safety which is what I assumed their intended purpose was. In my opinion the only thing they contribute to is government revenue. Take the fixed cameras in my local area, good chance if you live local you know exactly where every (or the majority) camera is so you know where you need to slow down for 20 metres (just so you can accelerate away again) and where you don't. They are there to catch people out, slow doesn't always mean safe. Of course the offence needs to be punished so no argument there really, if you're caught then you're caught, my issue is more with the purpose of the fixed style cameras in the first place especially since the introduction of average speed check cameras (granted these cant be used everywhere) I have a full clean licence btw and have never been done for speeding so no past resentments with the gov/plod on my part, just my opinion! Fully agree re: ANPR though! Edited September 25, 2018 by JordanC (see edit history)

Sakey
I do the M25 and M1 every day. These things cause more problems than they solve (if the outside lane is stopped and the inside lanes are flowing its a sign the cameras are causing the issue) but you get quite a bit of leaway and it seems randomly they trigger. I did get done last year though. Was doing 69 .... in a 60 on an empty M1
