clarey
Hi guys, did a track day the other day was great fun but being a automatic did lack a bit of speed coming out of becketts, Would it be worth putting in a manual gearbox and is it worth it and does any know the cost and where to start looking for one? Is there anything else I could do. Cheers Clare
Scooter
I would say for track work with an na yes it would be worth, unfortunately manual gearboxes seem to be becoming rarer, w58's should be available but some are from other cars so the shifter won't line up, others may have had a hard life in a higher than na powered car, all will be far more expensive than a few years back, maybe £500-£800? Suprakeith
Another option you could look at is a wet nos kit, you can one fitted for around £1000 and run a 75 shot and that will make a huge difference coming out corners and getting power down. I fitted kit to mine and it made a world of difference

el_bandido
Depends on your gearbox choice. What are your future plans for the car? If you're planning on going turbo eventually, a W58 would be a bad choice (for example). - - - Updated - - - Depends on your gearbox choice. What are your future plans for the car? Swampy442
Given the frankly ridiculous price of used boxes these days you're probably looking at at least 1500 quid now, maybe more for a 5 speed swap
clarey
So I be told can’t put a turbo on a non turbo engine, would be better buying a engine with a turbo already, just going to do maybe couple more track days next year and hopefully respray her. Darren M
There’s many well documented threads on here about the na-t single turbo conversion on a ge engine. You’ve been misinformed.

David P
Use Manu mode next time and change gears with the stick.

Not true, but its a better, cheaper base option to get a twin turbo engine. NA/T is expensive if done properly
