Mike
My missus is looking for a new car and fancies a Celica (baby Soop!)... she's got about 3k to spend... We've been trawling Auto Trader to see what there is... I have no clue what to look for on a Celica.. as it's Toyota, I suppose as long as it's been regularly serviced and all the usual bits are in the right place all should be fine? Can anyone advise on possible faults / specifics to check? Also which would be better to go for 2.0 or 1.8 - she's wanting cheaper insurance, so her preference would be to the 1.8, but is this sluggish in any way? We've seen a couple that are 95 reg, 60k miles for under £3k - is this too cheap? It does seem a lot of car for the money, but import market being flooded etc. ..and if £3k is dreaming to get a decent Celica, any ideas for other cars? we also had a look at FTO's, but got some silly quotes for insurance... Cheers!
ellis
Is there a Celica forum anywhere - if there is I'm sure there would be lots af advice on there.
CJ
I bought a Celica SS2 as a second car and have found it to be superb. Very reliable and great on fuel. There is a Celica club: http://www.celica-club.co.uk/cgibin/phpbb2/index.php
stevie_b
I like those celicas: did a bit of research on them when I was looking for a car. The 1.8 (ST) is reckoned to be a bit underpowered. The 2.0 (GT) seems to be the best if performance isn't of prime concern, and should be easier to sell on than the ST. GT4 (2.0 4 wheel drive turbo) for performance. I didn't test drive though, and not about prices. Prob not much help really!

toyotasuprauk
I used to have the older 1990 shape as pictured above in darragh's avator but not the GT4 it was uk car. I would go for the 2.0 on the shape your looking at but if its an import check your insurance because for some stupid reason those imported celicas can be really expensive to insure. straightsix
I've owned a 1990 2.0GT, a 1994 ST202 SS2 (2.0) and a ST205 GT4. All cars were superb. Make sure if you go for an imported 2.0 (SS2) that it is what it says. 2 cars were produced with the 2l engine, but only the SS2 was fitted with a 3SGE engine producing 180bhp. The lesser SS1 is essentially the same, but only 140 bhp.
