tintinmt
"17 year old I work with just had his policy voided because his car had a tiny little exhaust tip put in it. He didn’t even know it was a modification as he has no interest in cars." How did the insurer find out?
Spunkmeyer
How many insurance assessors are really going to crawl under a damaged car and look to see if it has a cat these items do not really affect the road worthyness of a car Every one who’s company is facing a hefty pay out to a third party? jimjam92
From an insurer's point of view the onus is on you as the owner to make sure your car is in a roadworthy condition and complies to all traffic and safety laws.

Scooter
Common sense sort of gone out the window. I mean from day one we've delimited imports when the limited max speed was an instant ban they let that slide. Third party's at least are paid out in cases of accidents while speeding/drunk etc so can't see it being any different for a decat. The only first here is a insurance company sanctioning a modification that is now definitely, by definition, not able to be fitted and pass an MOT, I'd hollow out an old cat if I was really worried. Jeez, that PistonHeads thread is quite an annoying read.
Karl M N
"17 year old I work with just had his policy voided because his car had a tiny little exhaust tip put in it. He didn’t even know it was a modification as he has no interest in cars." How did the insurer find out? Mechanic came to fit the black box in his car. Turned up an hour late, said he won't do it because of the exhuast tip and then he drove off. Nothing but a lazy jobsworth. The exhaust tip was taken off immediately as well. Told the kid he had 14 days to correct the problem but by the time he got home he had a notice of cancellation from his insurer Edited August 4, 2018 by Karl M N (see edit history)

This boys car actually came with alloys from factory. He removed them and even took pictures to prove he tried to comply with policy. Didn't help him. He was taking this up with the financial ombudsmen or something so I'll see how he got on with it.
