rider
Took the car out today first time in a few weeks. Had a good run and some full boost runs. Tricky-Ricky
Smoke on idle or overrun will likely be turbo seal.
Rob W
I’d be going with turbo seals.

Mike2JZ
I had this on my car after I took it to dyno recently. My engine has really loose speced piston rings, and I got worried when I saw it but it hasn't happened since.
Tricky-Ricky
Took a quick vid https://youtu.be/DRYlU5inOQE Looks like oil smoke does it smell like burnt oil, with that amount its got to be turbo seals, looks very similar to when my seals failed. Ric
Blue smoke so definitely oil. Id go with turbo seals also.
sidewaysdan
Thanks guys. Yeah I was afraid it might be the turbo as it’s the same t61 so I suppose it was a matter of time before it gave up... I suppose it’s time to upgrade the turbo then
sidewaysdan
Ok so the car doesn’t seem to be smoking anymore. Took the intake off and no play or oil so looks to be ok . But I am now looking to change the turbo now as it’s been in a few years and it is a xs-power one so won’t heart. Was looking for some advice on what to go for. Currently have a t61 70/68 what would be a good upgrade .. been looking at bw s366 I’m looking for a fast spooling for a Max of 600hp

Can be had for £700-900. Very good spool and power. Check Turtleheads (James) Dyno graph in Dyno section. That would be my choice bud. Get that shitty XS turbo off! Sheefa
Speak to Lee @ SRD mate he'll be able to sort you out with a good rate and if anything goes wrong as a Precision Dealer can help out. His number +447962171364
sidewaysdan
So the sarga continues. I’ve not use the sup in a few weeks now as I’ve been really busy but after finishing my garage I moved the car out and let it run for a few minutes and it started to smoke again but quiet bad this time. Even more so when I gave it a little blip of the gas.. is this still likely to be turbo related.. or something more serious.
Tricky-Ricky
Pretty confident you will find its the turbo seals, take it for a spin and give it some gas then close the throttle and look in the mirror or get someone to follw and you will see lots of smoke. Sheefa
Yes as Tricky suggested take it for a boost run. When mine went on my first Supra there were plumes, serious plumes, of white spoke down the dual carriageway!
sidewaysdan
Thanks guys I’ll give that ago. Definitely a priority this winter is to upgrade my turbo setup. Spoke to lee at srd but seems the exchange rate is quite bad so makes the 6266 quite expensive. So may look at a bw
Sheefa
Borgworners are great turbos mate, the Nums run them with spectacular results. Are you going for high power?
sidewaysdan
Hello mate. Yeah heard some good things with bw and see a few of the guys on here run them with no problems.. not really mate. Maybe 600. Think that will be the limit on my auto box. Been looking at the s300sx
Sheefa
Yes I was going to say are you auto or manual. 600 with a couple of oil coolers perfectly acceptable!
David P
Hello mate. Yeah heard some good things with bw and see a few of the guys on here run them with no problems.. not really mate. Maybe 600. Think that will be the limit on my auto box. Been looking at the s300sx The Hybrid transmission you have in your Supra doesn't have shimmed accumulators. Before you go fitting a bigger turbo, the accumulators will need shimming or the box won't stand a chance. The P to D bump could be sorted at the same time. sidewaysdan
Hi David. Oh really what did you do to the box then when the dr had it? I won’t be turning the boost up just yet the bigger/new turbo will be just to eliminate the problem I ha e now
David P
Your Supra has Hybrid transmission no. 3, which was built before I began also shimming the accumulators. Hybrids that are also shimmed are from no. 5 onward, retrofitted to no. 1. Hybrids without the P to D bump are from no. 13 onward, with the bump curing GE C-0 accumulator conversion retrofitted to no's 1, 7 & 9. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/group.php?discussionid=91&do=discuss I don't get much feedback, but I do keep records of the Hybrids as best I can. sidewaysdan
Ah ok . So would benefit from having that done then.
David P
Of course it would, that's why I now include this upgrade to all Hybrids from no. 5 onward. It's not a secret, all of this information and an awful lot more is provided in the Hybrid Transmission Group, of which you are a member.
