Panel filters

Sorry I don't know of sources, I just kept my eyes open and snapped them up when I saw them. I think they are about £50 to £70 new.

They do allow a little more sound out as they are not as restrictive as the stock paper filter. They are washable so last for ever ,so no so expensive when you consider the number of paper filters you can get through in the life of the car.

Nowhere near as loud as my HKS cone WOOOOSH PISSSSTTTT TISSSSSSSHHHH, use to frighten the life out of open top car drivers on roundabouts, with the breathing noises.:D

There isn't one, the stock one is not restrictive, filters extremely well, and, IMO, any attempt to improve on the paper filter is a total waste of time and money, and may even result in excess wear if the new type fails to filter as well as the stock one. An air filter that is restrctive costs MPG, something no manufacturer of cars will tolerate, so why should an after market filter element "improve" anything???

CHRIS, I do realise (AND AGREE !) that the Toyota filter is the

'best' as far as filtration goes (don't care what HKS/BLITZ claim).

AND, it probably doesn't reduce performance by more than a 'Gnats'.

I also am a believer in the "don't want hot engine-bay air getting

into the filter" idea !

I would just like a little (:read: "LOT") more induction noise (BOY!)

whilst retaining good filtration AND fresh/cool air (MIRACLE?)

If the panel is a compromise with a little more noise, that's

what I'm after... {if it's just as quite then waste of time??}

I went exactly the same route on me' RS, got a panel filter, 'slightly'

more induction when gettin' on a bit, fairly standard when cruisin'

and light throttle...

FatS.

OK, it's REALLY simple to find out if a panel filter will give the extra noise you desire or not. Just remove the stock filter altogether, refit the box lid and try it. Any aftermarket filter will be no noisier, maybe quieter, but my guess is the filter element will make absolutely NO difference to intake noise whatsoever, as it's the box itself that does the silencin.

Why didn't I think of that ? ?

" 'COS CHRIS HAS ALL THE BWAINS ! "

I'll try that tomorrow (not for long, obviously)

I wish.... I am just a good lateral thinker! Be sure to remove any dead leaves, insects, sweet papers et cetra before testing or the engine will attempt to eat them.
