nickyboy
I'm sure a lot of people on here would realise this already but for the benefit of anyone who doesn't I just thought I'd post up a word of warning about using wheel spacers. My cousin bought some wheels for his Peugeot 206 together with spacers and longer wheel nuts (on ebay). Unfortunately the nuts were not sufficiently strong and on the motorway he lost a front wheel while in the fast lane - pretty luckily managed to pull into the central reservation not even damaging his car too much. On taking the wheels off several other nuts had sheared off. So if you're going to use spacers, be careful and get the right nuts!!!! Scoboblio
Glad he's okay, sounds like a lucky escape! I'm going to have to use 3mm spacers on my supra when my UK brakes are ready to go on so I'm dreading the same thing happening
nickyboy
I think his were more like 15mm!! It can't hurt to check your nuts every now and then though. It seems like they didn't all shear off together as when the other wheels were taken off some of the other nuts where sheared off at the hub. Bob
Yup, should have used a proper hubcentric job like the Eibach / H&R ones.
toyotasuprauk
I think the sale of alloy wheels etc should be more tightly regulated or tighter checks on the MOT. Its seems people can buy any old crap wheel these days that don't fit the car probably, make the car simply dangerous yet its ok. This person could have been killed! Bob
As with any form of modifying though, it just goes to show that people need to do there research before bolting even the simplest thing on.
Terminator
Too many people think you can just plug and play. I suspect accident statics will eventually lead to nanny saying no modded cars, or SVA approval only.
