JCresswell
ALL, Just thought id add this incase anyone is doing a uk brake upgrade in the future. I Have just finished mine, Ding ace! Discs fit no problem under my 18" Wheels Calipers Fit no problem onto Jap Spec lugs! BUt and here it is, The calipers fouled the wheel width (not diameter) so i needed spaces, there was 20mm between my old jap spec calipers and the inside wheel edge. but the to get the new ones on i required a 5mm spacer fitted. after fitting the spacer i found that the studs where to short , i could only tighten them up by 4 turns DOH so i had to fit longer studs as well, Its all back together now and the car is great with its new brakes. i found Leon Very Very helpfull when it came to Studs and spacers, everybody holds leon in high regard and he knows his PooH, also i would like to thank John Packam for sending me the pics of his conversion and his advice. All the best J:baa:
Branners
glad it all worked out. It really backs up the statement that you just cannot tell if the wheels will fit unless you try them on a car with UK brakes. My old 17" black wheels would neither fit on diameter or width. eyefi
aye, is a common and well covered problem. not many european wheels will clear the front uk calipers (fouling the rear of the spokes). alot of jap wheels take this into consideration and list whether their wheels will clear these huge calipers. Terminator
I have had several people try their wheels over my UK brakes and even the ones that look like they will fit don't. Only had one set so far where the inside of the spokes cleared the calliper. 3 to 1 is not good odds:(
Steve W
"JC" ! ! My Dad picked up my UK brake 'bits' today..... What day do you want to come round and fit 'em ? ? ...... I was a teeny bit disappointed with the finish and 'supra' sticker on the rear calipers - bit pooh... but the fronts look really nice:) ......and HUGE ! ! BTW, I opened the box of the discs only to find that they are EXACTLY the same make as the ones I can buy at work from "ADL" ! ? ....either, ADL and TOYOTA use the same manufacturer, or, ADL make Toyota BRAKES ! ? Not a problem - just shows you that what you think are 'pattern' parts are sometimes OE bits ! ! Can anybody send me a pic / sketch of where/how the shims/ 'slider' bits go ? ? (I KNOW it's probably straightforward, but I HATE starting a job like 'brakes' without knowing EXACTLY how to do it ?) [bTW, who's 'chucked' the dust-shields and who's just 'altered' them ? ?] and, on close examination of the 2 rear calipers, I STILL can't see why one is ~£50 dearer than the other ? ? ? look like exact mirror images ! ! (the bloke in the parts department apologised to me Dad 'cos HE couldn't explain it away !) [sorry for butting-in JC ! !] FatS.
Terminator
Best to chop them off Steve, altering is probably more trouble than it is worth.
Steve W
I WAS talkin' about BRAKES.... NOT havin' the "SNIP" ? ?
Terminator
:p :p The rear plates don't do much once you start chopping them about, I think they would become more of a stone trap if you left them on. It looks neater too once they are removed, no nasty unsightly dangly bits;)
supra dan
do you have to cut them off or can you unbolt them? ive got the brakes just havnt fitted them yet
supra dan
also starting to worry if they will clear the wheels. i thought there was plenty of room but......
Steve W
Matt said you 'unbolt' 'em them cut once to remove ? ?
Matt Harwood
I unbolted my fronts and cut a section out to allow them to twist over the hubs. The rears are rivited on but a hammer and chisel soon sakes care of that!!! Ditch 'em Steve. If Ferrari's don't need 'em.....
Steve W
YEAH, BUT, who's bothered about gettin' Brake Dust on a FERRARI ? ? ?
