Matt Harwood
Can anyone tell me where I can get a field connector from?
Guest Martin F
These are extremely hard to get hold off nowadays. But just the other day i noticed that MVP in the states have supposedly managed to get hold of some. http://www.mvpmotorsports.com/default.asp Seem quite expensive for what they are. Phil Wall
They may be expensive, but they do save time and discomfort when you are attaching mods to the ECU harness.
Matt Harwood
May be expensive but I think it could be worth it. It may also be usefull if/when I get some kind of boost controller. Thanks for your help guys.
Graham Rudd
That does seem a tad expensive, but I think I'm going to have to get one myself. $174 though.... Ouch. Graham
Adam W
Can someone explain to me what a field connector is, and what it does? I'm intrigued!
Gordon F
Me too Adam! Was going to post that question myself. :cheesy:
Guest Martin F
A field(s) connector is basically a female and male ECU connector with a short length of cable in between. This allows you to make any breaks in the wiring on this field connector rather than the cars loom. If you ever want to return the car to normal you just remove the field connector. Also if you have lots of mods to make you can pull out the field connector and make all the mods to the connector on the bench rather than clambering around in footwells. Matt Harwood
And if you have ever looked at the limited space and tight cables going to the ecu and then think about cutting/joining 6 injectors, (12 connections in and out), you can see why they're appealing. How many people are interested in getting one of these? Perhaps we can save a bit of money on the overseas carriage.
Guest Martin F
Unfortunately it's a bit too late for mine
Graham Rudd
I'm interested in getting one Matt, although I need one quite soon as I'm starting a DIY project on my Soop and need easy access to the ECU. I'm not going through the hell that was fitting RLTC again. I'm a big bloke and crouching into that tiny space was NOT a lot of fun.
Matt Harwood
Well, that suits me. I want to install RLTC now and although I wouldn't say I'm a big bloke, I don't fancy scrabbling around down there. Must be bloody difficult to make a neat job of all those connections. How soon do you want to get it Graham? - Next week? Does anybody else want one?
Phil Wall
Nice one Matt, these things are fantastic, so easy to do the RLTC conections sitting in a chair by the bench. I can throughly recommend it to anyone, fitting mods to the ECU harness.
Matt Harwood
I now have the utmost respect for anyone that has fitted TC without one. I spent about 15 minutes looking at the cables and trying to get a bit more slack.... Then gave up. There was no way I'd attempt cutting cables with so little play and in such an awkward area. Besides, if I get a Field connector, I wont need to fiddle around with those small DIY pins/plugs. Thanks for the info Phil, without it, I wouldn't have known such a thing existed. Graham Rudd
If only I could have fitted my TC from the comfort of a chair! Heaven! No such luck, hours of leaning over the side of the car bruising ribs. Smacking my head off various protrusions and fighting with the two nanometres of slack I had in the loom was my lot. Phil... I'm envious. However I'm never going through that crap again, so I want a field connector ASAP. Matt, if you intend ordering one then I'll definately go for it to share the carriage. Anytime is good for me, the sooner the better. Let me know how you want to arrange payment etc. My e-mail address is [email protected] Graham

Matt Harwood
Already looked.... But at least there's only 4 to tap into Graham, whereabouts in the country are you? I'll order them on Monday, so if anybody else wants one.... Shout now!
Graham Rudd
I'm in Aldershot.
Phil Wall
IMHO the ABS connection are the worst, but at least you are not laying in a foot well. For those of you who have not experienced the delight of this procedure, it is a bit like trying to tie knots in spaghetti, using chop sticks, through a cardboard toilet roll centre, in the dark. The only consolation is you don't have to match any of the RLTC unit wires to the four ABS ECU wires as RLTC will allocate channels when you carry out the test drive. On analysis of the RLTC data files sent to me by members, most of us have picked the same RLTC and ABS wire combinations. Just words of caution, once you have done the test drive and the system is working fine make a note of the channel / wheel positions. If you pick up data files form other members to try in your car, you will need to check and alter these settings, to ensure they match your settins, if not and they don’t match, your RLTC will not work. Matt Harwood
Graham, you're not too far from me, so perhaps we could meet halfway once I have the harnesses. How's Clacket Lane services on the M25 for you? Phil, you make it sound so easy! I think I'll attempt it while wearing a straight jacket, just to make it more challenging. Can you tell me what wires you have allocated to which wheel? (Edited by Matt Harwood at 11:08 am on Feb. 3, 2002)

(Edited by Matt Harwood at 11:08 am on Feb. 3, 2002) It really does not matter, as the system works out which wheels are attached to which wires when you do the calibration. The only time it will matter is if you transfer settings from one car to another, but then you can see instantly in Graham's software which wheels are detected as driven, not driven etc and make the changes as necessary.
