July Meet

So..... the Riverside Acton Bridge seems a nice prospect ... by the canal etc ... assuming the heatwave continues?

Also, this time last year you all went to the classic car meet at the Swettenham Arms. I missed it unfortunately, was it any good?

Tuesday 24th or even 31st if preferred?

Expressions of interest and thoughts on date and venue if you please :)

All ok for me. Sorry I missed the last meeting. Been working from dawn to dusk. Tractor used 3 tanks of fuel in a week. Bloody good job it has A/C. Need another holiday now. Back to turkey in September and France in October. Just chill out.

Hi guys, sorry not been able to make the last few meets. I was looking forward to coming to this meet it’s been a while! But I’ve had bad news with the supra :( I think the gearbox has gone so it it’s is off the road for now! I had some big plans for the car as well but this has put me behind, hopefully I’ll make the next meet in the supra! Fingers crossed!

Bugger. That’s bad. I’ve never known anyone personally that’s had a supra auto box fail. I know you can drive them like a Manuel by holding them in each gear for longer than normal but it’s something that I have never done. What is it that had failed biff. How often did you check the oil level. I checked both dip sticks each time I used it but you used it everyday. Who going to repair it. You really need a specialist that know the in and outs of a supra gearbox. Once you know what’s failed talk to someone like Paul Whiffin. A conversation with him would be a good start.

Sound advice but check the differences between a jap and U.K. box. Ratios. Oil delivery. Cooling pipe fittings. Clutch. Tongue converter. Etc etc. Before you buy. Repair or change will depend on what the failure is.

Cheers for advise guys! Agreed brass it’s also done more miles on it this last year than it did in the previous 12 years!! Lol. Cheers for the advise it’s up in Rochdale now, a guy who works on supras daily is going to have a look at it and find the fault! Fingers crossed it isn’t as bad as it sounds!

Basically the car had been running sound up until last week or two, started making a grumbling sound, sounded like the exhaust thought nothing of it to be honest. All was fine until Sunday morning drove it home from work and the ‘grumbling noise had worsened! As I pulled up to my drive I looked back over the street and there was a ridiculous amount of engine oil leaked across the road. Took it to a garage in Moses gate told me to go Rochdale, as I pulled away a big screeching noise happened and I lost all use of gears, with oil pooring out still, so had to pull over and await recovery! Not good!

Sorry to hear that. So wished you would have telephoned me. And investigated it when you first heard the noise. Engine oil on the ground should have switched off and get it looked at immediately. Engine oil. Means problem with engine. Red oil gearbox unless it’s was so badly burned and discoloured so that it was gearbox oil then yes gearbox trouble. Could be either now but if it was engine oil and the was a great deal on the floor it’s clear there was a major leak from somewhere. Crankshaft bearing seal. Broken pipe etc. Screeching could have been a failure from the crank to the gearbox. But it is all shooting in the dark. Fingers crossed for you.
