Plus thought I should wait until I drove it before making a proper judgement. I found it was very fast but drove just like a 2/3 series BMW automatic. Some may disagree but just being fast doesn’t mean it’s not boring and after test driving it again recently I can firmly say it’s boring to drive. There’s zero engagement and that’s partly due to it being an auto but also due to the fake sounds and horrible steering feel. It’s pretty obvious after driving this back to back with other BMWs that the Toyota engineers haven’t done a thing so I don’t think they should have called it a supra and I wouldn’t ever buy one. The look of it though has grown on me a lot. Especially with some small mods it looks great but looks aren’t everything! It's probably the reverse of how I feel. I definately have to like the look of a car and would sacrifice performance to ensure that. Seems to me that if you like how a fast BMW performs, but actually want a car that doesn't look entirely dull and generic, then isn't the Supra at least a consideration? There are some easy tuning mods to get the extra the car deserves, although at the risk of your warranty!
MrGRT
In case it matters to you, I watched a few montgs ago a video of one of the guys that runs apex (nurburgring car rental) where they talk about some issues the mkv has and they thought it was dangerous for them to have it in their fleet. One was bump steer and the other is that the ESC will at times engage unexpectedly even though it was off and the guy nearly crashed in the video when it happened.

Thanks, that is very useful and I'll check that out. I'm also aware that there have been reports of excessive oil consumption which both BMW and Toyota are saying is normal. Having said that some dealers have checked engine bored and found scoring, and they have replaced a few engines. The mkv site even has a copy of the notice sent to dealer as part of a fact finding mission on behalf of Toyota. So it is clearly causing some concerns. I was very impressed overall but I didn’t really concentrate on the interior as I was always going far to quick My summary would be: Fast as standard so must be amazing with another 100hp! Good traction & handling. Sounds great. What I do say is that it’s a very good car but if the BMW involvement bothers you don’t buy one. I would probably choose a m2 comp over the mkv as they have rear seats plus I think they look great That one 4 seats... I dont understand why Toyota making it 2 seater and dont even put small rear bench. There is a lot of people who need more than 2 seats and for that reason even if the like the car they cant buy it... But apart from that car was really good i had it for around 1hr test drive and was quite impress with how it sounds handle accelerate etc i would buy one for myself if it only have 4 seats...

nolizma
Has anyone driven a LC500? Would love to read your thoughts. I am obsessed with it since I sat in one at the dealership. More gt than full out sports car. And a lot more supra than the a90 in my honest opinion. Can't wait for them to depreciate so I can afford one.. I think you should be able to get a second hand one for 50k now.

Weirdly enough the LC-500 sounds way better than the RC-F https://youtu.be/mWGZ2bKt2Zk
nolizma
The RCF is quite weird looking. The front is too wild for me.. lol. On the other hand, have you ever seen the GSF in the flesh? Pictures don't do it justice. I also love the exclusivity of the Lexus cars. There are 4 M2s at my work car park, which has like a 40 car capacity. I don't know where they get the money.. ben_harmer32
I was bored yesterday so I took a trip to Toyota. I test drove the new Supra, both 2.0 gr and 3.0 turbo versions. Have to say the 2.0 took me by surprise, was a lot nipper than I thought it would be and its a lighter car. Can deffo feel the difference. Also drove the Yaris GR, that was fun! Few extra bhp and it would be perfect in my opinion. Next up is to try the RC-F, this is the real contender for the next replacement of my current supra. Unfortunately the local lexus garage didn't have one so have to go to Guildford next week. Saw an LC in the lexus show room, was a beautiful looking car but 100k price tag

Sub £60K in the trader but no convertibles, if my crypto's go to the moon lol then ones on the shopping list, one thing though the wheels don't do it for me so i'd have to do something about that. Also why did they bother with the rear seats, they look virtually unusable Edited August 14, 2021 by Dnk (see edit history)
mwilkinson
I picked the car up last night and have brought it home. We have planned a few trips over the weekend to see how it gets on. It's been over the most aggressive speed bumps in the local area without incident, and seems well composed over the local Surrey / Hampshire shambles that they call roads. It gets a lot of attention. So Russ (Raven) definitely wouldn't like it! Sounds amazing going through the Hindhead tunnel The Toyota red is a god awful colour, I certainly would never entertain this on any car I bought. 2
mwilkinson
Well, I've just dropped the car back at the dealers. I was really impressed with the car and was sorry to see it go. I'm not remotely competent enough to offer you any detailed advice on its handling or otherwise. All I can say is that I certainly wasn't disappointed with its performance, handling or practicality. I'm so taken with the car that I ordered one today. It's due for delivery in Feb - I literally can't wait!
MrGRT
What swayed you to order one rather than buy a used one?
mwilkinson
You never know what someone has done to the car before you buy it. Has it been consistently hard launched and mapped etc.? I get the full 5 years of the warranty I don't wantantly swap my cars every 3 minutes. So this will likely be with me for at least 6 to 8 years, if not forever. So I like the idea of having ownership of it from the very start. Edited August 15, 2021 by mwilkinson (see edit history)

Can you put a bit of Japanese gum or a coin under the carpet? Just so if you sell it, the new owners mind will be blown.

mwilkinson
I went for ice grey. I do like the white, but we currently have a pearl white car and whilst very nice, it is a PITA to keep clean. I also felt that the grey better accentuates the lines of the car.
