Kendo11
Couple more from Instagram. One shows a lot of the interior, battery in the back although that can't be a permanent location?
Bobbeh
I watched this for hours on Youtube live and didnt see it once apart from in the pits at the start.. glad it got a decent run out. el_bandido
What would be a very nice surprise would be some ridiculous sequential turbo set up on the BMW engine.

Something you wont see im afraid, the design of the head alone will make alternative turbo setups difficult.

Apparently the head is going to be different to the bmw engine and the Toyota version has its own code (C I believe)

mwilkinson
Just gonna leave this here. Seen this onthe MkV forum http://wernher.co.jp/product01/a90-supra/ According to the power upgrade on offer the 40i engine will have 340 PS and can be upgraded to 408 PS. For the money it’s rumorued to cost it should already come with that power.

Chris Bailey
If it’s the B58 engine then it’s easily tuneable with just bolt on mods, BMW claim 340hp stock but they seem to make more on a rolling road circa 350-360hp.
el_bandido
I've come back round to thinking it doesn't matter how good this car is, it may well be amazing, but Toyota should have called it something else. The only problem with this car is the name. The MKIV wasn't about the specs at the end of the day, it was about what it stood for; Toyota going completely balls out ridiculous and seeing how far they could push an idea. I really think they should have saved the name for something that had the heart of a Toyota. All the heat and, to some extent, hate, is only because it's got "Supra" written on it. The car community would be loving this idea if it was called anything else.

BMWs are overpriced. Same with all German cars, they aren’t worth what they ask but people pay for the badge. The new supra won’t be worth £50k. No one would pay that money for that level of performance
Krister
Something you wont see im afraid, the design of the head alone will make alternative turbo setups difficult. It has its limitations but turbo upgrade is possible. The VAG EA888 has similar head design as the B58, so the manifold is integrated to the head and APR is using an adapter to use an EFR turbo. https://www.goapr.com/products/stage3_ea888_mqb.html
el_bandido
I agree with you there, the LC500 already comes with a v6 option and 8 speed, all they needed was some money into the chassis and turbo development for the 3.5L GR engine. They can be picked up now for £20,000, Fit a JB4 plug and play tuning box which costs £200-£400 and you have a 420+bhp car which is M3/M4 territory. Im holding judgement until the new supra is released.

In any event we're talking about performance figures we can happily achieve in the MKIV. Wouldn't have been a Supra with a V6, just as the R35 isn't a Skyline GTR
el_bandido
Edit: long story short: 6 cylinder TT is a 6 cylinder TT. Edit 2: And no, the new GTR is orders of magnitude better than any skyline that came before it.

j_jza80
Edit: long story short: 6 cylinder TT is a 6 cylinder TT. Edit 2: And no, the new GTR is orders of magnitude better than any skyline that came before it. Most supras dont have turbos. All Supras have inline 6 cylinder engines. Even the 2000gt had a straight 6. Plus, the 2jz was designed by a german company, and the holy grail 6 speed gearbox designed and built entirely by a german company, so not sure why people are so concerned about the purity of the new one. The R35 maybe superior in numbers, amd night and day faster than what came before, but the engine is awful compared to the RB26. Quite literally comparing one of the best sounding 6 cylinder engines ever (even nicer than 2jz) to one of the worst sounding ones.
mwilkinson
Plus, the 2jz was designed by a german company I didn't know this, nor have I ever seen any reference to this. Do you know which company it was?
