Supra MkV launch and updates thread

Got the opportunity to sit in one a few months ago when I took the Supra in for a service.

It is a lovely car, a few angle from outside that I am not sure about but overall not something that I would turn my nose up if someone handed me the keys. I'll not go into the whole should it be called a Supra debate 😄

I know people keep saying it is a BMW, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, however I was actually quite surprised at how much of the car is actually from a BMW.

I have a new 1 series and when I sat inside it was a very familiar place which for me was a little disappointing, especially given the Lexus parts bin they could have ransacked. Lexus have beautiful interiors!

As I was having a wait in service I had time to kill so I decided to see how many parts it shared with my 1 series!

  1. Door handles exterior
  2. Wing mirrors
  3. Door handles Interior
  4. Window buttons
  5. Luck/unlock buttons
  6. Electric mirror buttons
  7. Digital Dash
  8.  I drive system
  9. Handbrake button
  10. Infotainment system
  11. Steering wheel
  12. Radio buttons
  13. Heated Seat buttons
  14. All the driving light buttons
  15. Gear Stick
  16. Rear view mirror
  17. Hazard button

I also didn't realise that most if not all of the exterior vents on the car are fake which again was a little disappointing.

As I said overall I think it is a good car, plus it is also pretty quick as I found out on Dragoncol!

And that's just the obvious stuff.

Just look at the build location!

As I've previously mentioned, the interior was a potential show stopper for me.  It was only having the car for a few days I was able to get over all the negativity associated with the car and enjoy it for what it is.

I feel that most people approach the car wanting to, or thinking they should, hate it.

I get that, it will always be a marmite car given it's predecessor has a devout cult following!

No went for the black and red

Very cool!

Please do share more photos and your experience with the car once you spend some time with it. Very curious as to how it compares to the supra.

To me it feels a lot more like a continuation of the a80 compared to the a90. Both in aesthetics and feel. Have never driven one but I mean the feel of the interior and the overall vibe. I assume you went for the v8?

  • 5 weeks later...

Picking the new Supra up on Thursday.  It actually arrived at the dealers on Wednesday, but work commitments and fitting in the ceramic coating of the car meant I had to wait the week.

I'm really looking forward to finally getting it.

I managed to get the optional boot mat from Fensport for £81 delivered.  Toyota UK wanted £166+ VAT and postage!

I'm going to see if I can source the carbon wing mirror covers, the BMW ones will invariably fit.

I'd also like to see if I can get the US OEM ducktail spoiler.

Congratulations! Yes the wing mirrors are the same as my 1 series so hopefully you might be able to get covers with out paying supra tax on them! What kind of options do you get from the dealer? Assume they don't do a TRD pack yet either aesthetic or performance?
