el_bandido
Generous. I wonder how much is actually covered for the whole 5 years though.... Probably the finish on the Toyota badges. I'd be surprised if BMW would allow them to offer 5 years on anything that isn't bodywork.
JasonR24
Generous. I wonder how much is actually covered for the whole 5 years though.... If it doesn’t cover the engine it wouldn’t surprise me. They did mention on the live stream that it’s been tuned with reliability in mind. Worrying that BMW are going to release the same engine with 380bhp+ though as it kind of undermines that statement

Frank Bullitt
All that video does is reinforce the original thought that Toyota had very little input with the car and that the new Supra is just a rebadged Z4. Toyota stripped down four engines and sent thousands of parts back to Japan for full failure analysis to be done. Then sent them back to Germany to be revised if they weren't up to Toyota standards. Nice to know the engine should be reliable then. Suspension design was largely taken from existing BMW cars. Both use the BMW electronic diff. The front suspension is Macpherson strut. They "co-developed" an engine with Valvetronic & Vanos. I though those had been parts of BMW engines since 2016. So for those of you who thought the new Supra used a BMW gearbox, you were wrong. The ZF8HP is used by Alfa Romeo, Alpina, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Haval, Iveco, Jaguar, Jeep, Lamborghini, Lancia, Land Rover, Maserati, Ram Trucks, Rolls-Royce & Volkswagen. BMW have to be laughing all the way to the bank, Toyota have helped them produce the most reliable BMW yet. Edited February 4, 2019 by Frank Bullitt Grammar. el_bandido
BMW have to be laughing all the way to the bank, Toyota have helped them produce the most reliable BMW yet. You can bet some of that will be passed into the next generation of BMWs as well.
Al Massey
BMW have to be laughing all the way to the bank, Toyota have helped them produce the most reliable BMW yet. That was my initial thought after watching the video last week. Toyota just made their engine and reliabilty much better.
el_bandido
BMW stand to gain a lot, which can be passed on to their next lines but I'm not entirely sure what Toyota have gained that can be passed on to another Toyota. If the main benefit Toyota brought was reliability and the input into the platform, then tweaking another manufacturer's suspension parts, this is all a one off exercise. BMW must be laughing all the way to the bank with this. It seems entirely 1 way, BMW now make something that meets Toyota's existing quality standards. What do Toyota now make? Nothing new. JasonR24
You can tell BMW had all the power in this arrangement as well as the most to gain because on the day of release for the supra BMW stated that the Z4 was faster and had more power.... Toyota have walked blindly into a slaughter
David P
Maybe the BMW sales patter is; "If you want to buy a Supra, it would be silly not to buy the Z4"? Edited February 4, 2019 by David P (see edit history)
