el_bandido
I'm seriously tempted to build a MKIV with a newer toyota v6 and 8 speed just to show them what they could have done.
supra_aero
I think its a shame they did away with iconic rear spoiler. The rising ft1 version looked cool and had a modern spin. Strange. I dont think bmw partnership is an issue. They did make mclaren f1 engine after all. But not the entire car lol

What would be better imo is 2jz and 6 speed conversion in the new supra , you know someone will do it down the line when they get down to a price . A BMW 6 speed manual box should bolt straight tk the engine in the mk5, and I suspect there will be various bolt on diff options. Some ecu work will probably be needed, but doing a manual swap on a mk5 should be relatively easy.
adnanshah247
We’re is JamieP when you need him?! I can just about guarantee, he will buy one, stick a 2jz in it 6 spd and TRD diff and then do a burn out on toyotas forecourt with his middle finger in full extension. Kill the R35 they said, kill Ferrari’s and Mclarens with a hybrid option they said, a supra mk4 squared they said, Toyota you bunch of absolute prats, congratulations you humiliated the supra name and yourselves. I love Toyotas I’ve had every make and model but this stunt has made me hate them, lately I’ve been moving onto Lexus, looks like I’ll stay there. Had the privilege of being taken out in the LC 5.0litre V8 and god damn was it a machine! Sod you Toyota and thanks for taking a giant dump over the supra name! KamaSupra
This is more like it!! All I keep seeing is photoshops of what the mkv should have looked like, people not even at Toyota are making better exterior and interior designs than Toyota. Marty & Colin in SSI (Supra specialists Ireland) have stuffed a 2urgse V8 in a IS250 , currently have one going into a Mk4 ; nearly sure they used the 8 speed http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?271591-SSI-Lexus-IS-F-5-0L-V8-2ur-gse-!!-Project
tayr
in my opinion when the mkiv first came out they never looked "special" against it's current market - it was only really because of the F&F franchise that they became such a big hit. Then the body kits started rolling out and finding one without a kit on was rare. Obviously now as time has gone on the stock appearance of the mkiv has become favorable and is gorgeous. Stick a few "aftermarket" parts on the new one and it will look fantastic. BMW interior is nice and the B58 is really quick. Toyota never said they were trying to compete with the ferarris and lambos of today it was always suggested their main rival was the Cayman. Toyota was never trying to be something who they weren't back at the launch of the MKIV and they are doing the same with the MKV
el_bandido
I see their customer service is already taking a nose dive. Paul Whiffin just put a post up saying that he had confirmation of an A90 edition, followed by an email saying he doesn't have one and it was a mistake. Bit harsh to say the whole of Toyotas customer service has taken a nose dive? Not defending it as I'd be furious beyond reconciliation. My thoughts this morning ran more along the lines of "actually, BMW make some really great cars...this is a way of owning one without the embarrassment and stigma attached to owning a BMW." As for the Supra name? 6 cylinder, RWD, great to drive, throw in some race pedigree and tuner parts to come...I have a feeling they may do fine with this. They were never going to please us existing owners - we're but a piddling pot compared to the big wide market that worries not about how the MkIV compares. I've yet to drive it (looks like the launch is in May at some point) but this is how I feel too. There's enough in the recipe to keep me entertained, anyway. And the platform is brilliant based on my Z4 prototype drive last year.

I have been on the mkv forum and they do have a point everyone forgets what a true stock mkiv looks like and are comparing the new supra to modified mkiv's even if that just includes a rmn lip and lowered its not stock vs stock Was interesting to see the amount of interest in the car on there and a poll that showed the highest amount of potential buyers don't own a mkiv . I thought this was pretty piss poor someone in the UK got a letter from Toyota to say sorry we overbooked on orders and you wont get the special launch edition but we will give you 2 years free service plan and guest at goodwood I can see a TS bonnet looking nice on the new supra

JasonR24
They’re doing a live show for those who have reserved. EDIT: they kind of answered my question. They’ve had a relationship with BMW since 2014 when the i8 was released. You can’t turn off all the electronics They stated just the wing mirrors and window wipers are shared parts but we know that’s incorrect. Why would you want to btw? just curious Shared exterior components were the wipers, door handles and wing mirrors supposedly Bit weird how theres nothing to stop all your stuff flying forward out the boot when you brake. More i get involved with it the more i quite like it.

He specifically said you couldn’t turn it all off when someone asked him that, even in sport then track there are still electronic nanny systems in place. I find the more involved I get, the more dissapointed I get. Toyota had plenty of Lexus platforms to utilise that would have made the car worth considering. The only upside is it comes with a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty
