I'm thinking the same. Allegedly this is faster than the M2. Which seems to have surprised a few motor journalists.

Will this have surprised Toyota too?

I note the Cayman, to which the Supra is being benchmarked (sadly I might add), did a lap in 07:40.

So the Supra needs to gain 15 seconds over the Z4, to be remotely comparable / comparative. Even then it will it need to be even better?

We'll have to wait and see. Without any physical changes to the car, the engine and gearbox mapping could make a relatively drastic difference. May be looking at different tyres too?

So do we expect the new Supra to post a better lap time?

I would expect a coupe to get a better time than a convertible. Not a considerable difference but a better one. I think there is more to this Supra than just the same chassis and drivetrain. We'll see.

Sounds good - I like the fact they've made a decent platform for tuners too. I read elsewhere the chassis/body has mounting points for all sorts of aftermarket items... I cant wait to see what tuners do with it!

I had a long chat about it with Ben (who wrote that article) yesterday. It sounds like they've nailed the concept of building a standard replacement for the mk4. The GRNM version is going to be wild, by all accounts. Only thing slightly concerning is lack of passenger space due to design constraints, but I need to sit in it myself to comment about that.
