tayr
Hi all Currently looking at a 95 supra. On the test drive it crunches from second to 3rd. Is this normal? If syncro gone what is typical repair cost
bignum
Not cheap i`m afraid, Suprasport charges around 4k for a full rebuild iirc, it would be false economy to repair 1 syncro.

bignum
So do they sell the parts?Pretty sure they do yes. Just bare in mind there aren't many gearbox places over here that will take on the v160/1.
tayr
Thanks guys I'm gonna ring a couple specialists tomorrow. What are the symptoms of synchro going? When I say grunding it's not like a crunch where you forget to put your foot on the clutch its a bit more subtle than that
Swampy442
Also search for a guy called Arnout van Der Camp in Holland, he stocks certain V16x parts. They're old boxes now, and boxes do wear out

blythmrk
They are notchy boxes especially 1-2nd in my experience but generally it’s more gear change technique one of the forum members was worried about his box so I recommend changing the selector bushes first. He did this and the difference was amazing like a different gear box

There is a man near me that works on gearboxes for rally cars and road cars. Could someone like that not rebuild one if he had the parts. That's what bignum is getting at...no one has the parts lol Toyota sold off the tooling and machinery to manufacture these parts so they've been in limited supply for a long time now. Unfortunately, gear sets aren't an easy item that any old machine shop can whip up

Not really something anyone but the most desperate of people would take on... Apart from jacks and suprasport. Dont forget shipping costs in their proces. Chris Wilson
I'll tell you what the problem is. Expensive, yep, that's it, expensive One day auto owners will be grinning ear to ear as Getrags pop out of gear and crunch and whine, and their owners take out second mortgages still spouting "I couldn't possible have an auto in a sports GT car". Seriously though, doesn't sound good and pressing apart certain sections of the Getrag 6 speed are fraught with problems, even assuming that once it *IS* apart you can get all the bits needed to fix it up again.
