Gaz6002
It's pretty brazen if you ask me. Works, though, shockingly enough.

PJJ
My mum had a similar thing. She got a call off someone saying her PC was infected with a virus. Knowing she had never even owned a PC she played along with it, keeping the caller on line for ages :-) He kept guiding her through steps thinking she was clicking things to download his malware, she kept saying yes I clicked that etc. After keeping him on the phone for ages he said to her, "has that now installed?" - She answered "you stupid fool, I haven't even got a PC!!!". Needless to say he hung up and she has never been bothered again since.

Al Massey
Happened to me before too, tried to get me give them access to my computer and download some software. Knew it was a scam straight away as Microsoft would never ring me but I played along until I googled them. Shocking how easy the scam works

Annabella
Too many of my clients have fallen for this and lost thousands. 1 got several thousand back after I had to do a report, 1 sent a lot of money via Western Union which is too late! It seems to work when the victim is busy,in a rush or having a bad day and not thinking logically, as in the the original call jumping from being from BT, data being transferred from your broadband to other computers, transferred to the NCA to allowing login to Amazon, and bank, and sending a 'test ' amount to catch a known internet fraudster...... Soop Dogg
My first thought is "If my computer let you know in some way that it's being hacked, how on earth did it give you my phone number?" In my case, the two have never been linked via any sort of registration etc.
