List of most recently mentioned insurers on-here (as of May 2018)

Recommended Posts

A few years back I posted this thread listing relevant insurers and a few people said they found the contact details listed useful.

Since they my insurer Footman James had always provided decent renewals so I haven’t shopped around.

However, this year’s renewal quote (£433) was somewhat lacking...

As it bores me so much ringing up all the different insurers and answering the same questions over and over, this year I though I’d try writing all my info in an email and sending this out to all of them first.

Out of 9 insures I sent this to 5 of them replied either directly with a quote or to follow-up and arrange a quote.

1 Replied saying they were unable to quote over email and also unable to even arrange to call me back

The other 3 ignored the email.

So for 5 of them this at least this saved me some time!!

As it might be useful again to somebody I thought I would list the contact details below that I found for the relevant insurers that members on here have been talking about recently.

I did noticed quite a few now open to around 7pm on week nights so calling round doesn't have to be a lunchtime/weekend job.

I’ll also log a second post below with a template for the email I sent in case anyone wants to try out this email method too. If you do, then please post a reply letting others know how you got on. Also for any template typos or edit suggestion please post and I’ll try and update it, or I’m happy for others to edit the below post to make these changes if anyone has access to do this.

No code has to be inserted here.

- Some insurers did take several days to get back to me when I tried this email so I if you are going to do the same then I advise to do this at least a few days before renewal date.

- It will probably invalidate your insurance if you do not provide correct information.

Thanks Sky for the updated contact details.

Thanks Pete for updating these in this thread.

The quote I did get back from sky today was over £100 more than other brokers so unfortunately I wont be able to go with you guys.

Also I'm sure others, as well as me, would be interested to know why Sky, or your underwriter, wasn't able to class the Supra as valid for "Classic Car" insurance where as most other insurers would?

Thanks for that.

Re. the classic car side of things, The issue is not the underwriter, but the scheme the vehicle would be on. Our focus has mainly been imports, modified, and performance cars, which usually fall into a different policy than a classic car would. However, we're in the process of adding a new, more varied, classic car scheme to our already specialist panel. Hopefully, this will help us be even more competitive for the majority of members.

Cheers,

Alex

Be worthwhile keeping an eye on who is where with insurers.

Presently looking to get my Supra TT6 agreed value pre approved before considering any switch from current expiring policy provided by LV Classics at £28k cover - looking to raise this to £30k on renewal. I'll add to the list as insurers respond. So far results are:

Classic Line

OK to pre-approve on photos and write up. Came back with £18k limit on agreed value which is a long way off market so rejected.

Thank you for presenting all of the desired information. However, up on reflection the valuation team would only be willing to agree £18,000.

Lynbrook

Didn't get past first base, here is their response to my email.

In order to agree a value on the vehicle we would need to see a copy of a valuation certificate from either a classic car club or independent specialist. Unfortunately we are unable to agree values based on photos alone.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Lynbrook Insurance

Hagerty International - Classic Car insurance

Good to go with £30k agreed value based upon pictures and write up. I do have history with this broker as my other classics are insured through them so that may make things easier compared to new customers making their first enquiry?

QUOTED PREMIUM DUE £XXX.XX This includes Insurance Premium Tax at 12%

Vehicle(s) Subject to Quoted Change

Year Make Model : Amount Insured : Policy Excess : Annual Mileage Allowance

1996 TOYOTA SUPRA RZ TWIN TURBO £30,000 150 1000

Hagerty offer primarily Hiscox insurance policies. An insurer with a fairly good reputation.

Brentacre Insurance Services Ltd

Good to go with pre-approval on agreed value. Photos sent and form filled out. Replied quickly asking for larger pictures so I've sent them some big picture files. Approved the valuation on £150 excess and 1,500 miles.

Further to email earlier today I can confirm that we would be happy to place an agreed value of £30,000 on your vehicle if you wish to go ahead with the policy.

Everything is noted up so please let me know when you wish to proceed,

Thanks,

The quote from Brentacre was very competitive, however i have decided against running with their initial quote as the insurer is Markerstudy who it seems from online reviews that Adrian Flux also use. Trust Pilot and Reviewcentre reviews of Markerstudy are appalling. Both bottom 1 star rankings (as a comparison my current insurer, LV top customer satisfaction surveys like those run by Which Magazine and are 4 stars, out of five, on trust pilot). i have asked Brentacre if they have a more customer service focussed insurer on their panel that they can offer up a quote for - awaiting a response on that.

I have spoken with my underwriter and we can only offer Markerstudy on this scheme. I realise they come up poor online, however we have used them for many, many years now and have never experienced any issues with claims.

I declined. Brentacre are a professional brokerage to deal with, shame about the insurers really poor customer service and claims management history expressed in online reviews. The Markerstudy quote is 40% lower than the LV Classic renewal notice. A massive saving but for me not enough to justify the potential hassle in dealing with and pursuing a claim.

Adrian Flux

Acknowledged contact email in an auto responder message, message stated they would soon be in contact.

Called late on the next working day to add some personal information. Said they can pre-approve agreed value no problem. I told them not to bother quoting Markerstudy. Caller ask why, had I read some bad reviews. I replied, yes a great many. Caller said they are terrible aren't they. Left to email over any quotes, excluding Markerstudy.

We can agree a value of the vehicle before we start the insurance but it does require us to charge a £15 fee before hand to send out the documents to you.

Asked to quote first and advise insurer before agreeing to pay up front a £15 valuation assessment charge. They sent over a competitive quote (though high compulsory excess) with an OK insurer so handing over the £15 and lets see what valuation they come back with.

Nine days later, I'm still awaiting the valuation and the policy renewal date is fast looming. I've emailed a prod. Received a response advising they couldn't give a valuation as the form was not accompanied by any pictures (these had been provided in the initial email so were resent).

Several days later still nothing and I have run out of time on the current policy so its a no from me to AF. Turned into several months with no response. £15 was refunded without having to ask.

Lancaster Insurance

Never responded. No acknowledgement, no reply, no call.

Sky Insurance

Responded after a couple of days.

Many thanks for the email.

This does appear to be a very nice example indeed. All things considered, our agreed value offer would be more around the £25,000 mark.

Best regards

Rejected due to the lower than desired agreed value limit.

LV Classics

Received the renewal which will only go up if I called them to raise the agreed value from £28k to £30k. Its noncompetitive compared to other quotes received for £30k cover so I won't be renewing with LV Classics. Policy was on auto-renewal which has been cancelled. They never even asked why I was either considering or actually leaving.

Top tip with Broker arranged insurance is always ask who the insurer is and run background checks before paying for the cover. Worthwhile as you only get to find out how good your insurance is when you come to claim against it and although people are more driven to leave bad reviews online than they ever are to leave good ones it is easy to pick out which insurers have a bad track record when it comes to customer service and handling claims. The cheapest insurance is often not the best insurance.

Went in the end with Hagerty adding the Supra to a pre-existing multi car policy. £140 for 5 months cover at £30k agreed value to take it up to the policy renewal date.

Any more luck Rider? I had a renewal policy with Flux which luckily due to a change in debit card never auto renewed resulting in me calling them them to discuss the policy. It soon transpired that Avivia which whom I would have been insured with doesn’t offer an agreed value.

I’m now back in the market for a decent quotation with a similar agreed value as yours and would prefer not to use marketstudy who were the next price up from Avivia with Flux direct.

I went with Classic Line who were not only 15% cheaper than AF, they agreed on £30K (with a certificate sent through today) and as the Supra is now on a classic insurance I have 12 NCB to use on another car. This is great news as I have the chance to opt out of a company car scheme and the 0 no claims was really impacting my insurance quotations.

Overall I’m very happy with the company, very helpful and friendly.

Has anyone yet had to get an "Independent Valuation Form" for their agreed value?

If so, does anyone know where you'd get it done?

Apparently Toyota dealers or owners clubs would be able to do it (can't see my local Toyota dealer having ever even seen a mk4 supra).

One of the most helpful insurance thread contributions I’ve seen 🙂

ive been with Lynbrook for years but they have changed from using ERS and I’m not sure I’m as happy with them anymore.

I like the look of Haggarty and their vibe on their website seems to tick all the boxes. Wouldn’t have contacted them without the heads up, so thanks in advance of a quote from them.

That write up is getting a bit old now, hopefully someone can give an fresh update on their phone and email journey sometime.

The thing I especially like about Hagerty is they work with you based upon your own circumstance. My policy states that the cars I have must be garaged overnight when at home, obviously not if you are away visiting or on holiday with the car. I have more cars than garage space so they worked with Hiscox (the underwriter) to have a formal agreement that my covered and walled barn is a suitable overnight storage location. That is important as I have my ramp and tools in the barn so the cars can spend days or even weeks in there on or at the ramp. They also work with you on agreed values, none of this third party evaluation required. I just put forward pictures and detail why I think each of my cars is worth whatever and they have always accepted my desired valuation as the insurance agreed value, which comes down to what money I'd be happy to accept should the cars be a total loss or stolen.

They are a company that seem to know their cars and more especially, know their customers. They always say you never really know how good an insurer or broker is until you need to make a claim and i have never made a claim through Hagerty, so I just place my faith in their generally very good online revues in that regard.

The Supra’s insurance is up for renewal.

Contacted Sky, they couldn’t be bothered to get back to me and seemed really disinterested. Contacted Reis yesterday so waiting for a quote. Flux is currently £379 which is up from £300 last year.

3000 miles, garaged on private drive, agreed value, legal cover, salvage buy back and 23 years/maximum NCD.

I’m calling them on Monday.

Update on Reis, they weren’t wanting to entertain my current cover or the policy price. Had to phone them up to get that answer.

The car isn’t getting used so I am tempted not to bother until next year but that doesn’t feel a safe or clever option.
