lewis hill
Hi lads, Does anyone know the best way to remove powdercoat from cam covers and rattle can paint from stock intake manifold? Need them as smooth as possible ready for spraying again. Also does anyone know how to smooth off a precision turbo for paint? To remove those tiny little bumps? As there is so many different types of blasting I don’t know which is best/safest for the parts Thanks Lewis
Frank Bullitt
Walnut shell to remove old powdercoating and aqua blasting to remove paint would be my choice. If it is casting marks you want removing get the Dremel out. E2A If blasting the cam covers you MUST remove the baffles and clean them out properly before fitting them back on the engine. Will look into walnut shell to see who does it Oh great that’s going to be a long job with the dermel haha Okay I’ll have a look into how to clean them
Mk4Gaz
Paint stripper or thinners will take it off, although it's a messy job

Dnk
Find a powder coaters that does chemical stripping or a chemical stripping comp, should be very cheap to do just cam covers, one in B'ham charged under £10 per wheel as a guide Phosphoric acid is what we used to use at Ibrars before he subbed the job out to a chemical stripping company in B'ham Works very well and the acid is neutralised in water Edited April 6, 2018 by Dnk (see edit history)
