peter richards
got my mot tomorrow so just been out the garage I know the washer pipes are slightly blocked , cleared them a bit but need an air line, but what I wanted to know is when I put the key in the ignition, I heard a small clunk and can hear a very small hum from the drivers side in the engine bay , and when I press the brake pedal . any info appreciated. just been back out try it again all lights are working , big triangle is on and I can hear a clicking noise in the passenger footwell when I press the brake pedal Edited April 3, 2018 by peter richards (see edit history)

peter richards
ok then guys , is it a fail with the big triangle on , this garage I go to is super fussy on dash lights
The Raven
Id say they will fail it for the main one on yes. No idea on the issue. but most random triangles are down to low brake fluid, so with the fact something is clicking when you press the pedal id guess its a brake issue. peter richards
thought so ill cancel the mot , now the fun begins theres nobody down here where I live that will look at the car not even Toyota
Shane
Clicking noise in the passenger footwell when you press the brake pedal I would say is most likely a relay operating and normal. Disconnect the plug on top of the brake resevoir and see if the triangle goes out. If it does then its either low fluid or dodgy float switch. Humming noise, I have no idea, are you sure the blower isn't on very low?
peter richards
ok thanks ill have a look ive cancelled the mot for now , the only thing I did notice earlier , is the air con wasn't kicking in ,
peter richards
did that still the same topped up the fluid no change , but if I put it in neutral and press the brake no clicking

Shane
Its pretty unusual for the triangle to be lit, normally handbrake, brake fluid level or float switch sticky or door open. Going out on a limb here.... the car runs yes? Also, just a thought based on a strange set of symptoms I have witnessed twice following a flat battery on mine, dissconnect one leg of the battery for a minute and then re-connect and try again. Shane
ok thanks I did the wire connection and all that happened was the OD of off light was flashing ,batterys fine shane got it on a c tek, yes car starts all the lights are ok OK but I would still try disconnecting it for a minute or two and trying again. Also, I may have given you some bum advice re the level switch, I am thinking it is a NC switch meaning it goes open when the level is low, use your paper clip to link the two pins in the connector together and see if that takes the light out. Shane
ok disconnected the battery for a few mins , all lights on on ignition then they all go out on start up , still can hear the clicking when I press the brake pedal . OK so that includes the red triangle too? I am not at home just now so cant confirm but think the clicking from the passenger footwell is normal area isnt a problem and most likely a relay doing what its meant to. How loud is this clicking, louder than the engine ticking over or do you only hear it when the engine isnt running?
peter richards
yes mate all lights are out when engine running , the clicking if this makes any sense is on or around the handbrake I can feel it , but then in neutral it doesn't do it only in park

Ric
Is it the gear shift lock? mine also clicks like mad, can feel it in the gear shifter and press brake on and off. If so, normal.
