jza800
I have a generator/alternator fault, and are trying to find out what the fault is, it is not chargning the battery, i have checked all the power connections and they are ok. in the plug behind the alternator i have. + from the battery and ign power, so i now the alternator is getting power to the parts inside the alternator, but it dosent produce electricity to the battery.. so my question is, what inside the alternator can be the fault?? evinX
Put a peice of steel against the casing and see if the alternator is a magnet. Im sure someone will be along with info on the inside components as i have heard alot.of people have fixed theirs
jza800
yes i like to fix my own as well, as a new is very expensive, i dont think it is the voltage regulator as the alternator is not over chargning but dont charge at all. and the brush holder seems to have good contakt to the rotor.. jagman
Voltage regulator , diodes , slip rings , windings , and bearings can all go faulty , not worth repairing as the alternators only last around 100000 miles , usually inner slip rings worn out - just accept that they are consumeable like tyres and replace the alternator every 100000 miles . It’s part and parcel of owning an old car , battery ,alternator, crank pulley, water pump and so on will fail - you just replace them with new
