D1andonlyantman
Hi everyone. Looking to BPU my car. Ive had a quote off whifbitz which was reasonably priced, but the Labour is going to kill me with the other bits i want done. I'm no stranger to a spanner, is doing the BPU myself safe and simple enough? I've already got a FMIC fitted , so it'll just be plugs, fuel pump, decats, restrictor ring and FCD I think. It's more the safety I'm worried about, not actually fitting the stuff. Also whifbitz recommend a 1bar restrictor ring and use a boost controller to crank it to 1.2, is just using 1.2 restrictor ring not safe? Any info, good people to buy parts off of, or general advice on it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
inazone
Do it yourself, it's not hard. At this stage it's pretty much plug and play. As per Paul's recommendation 1bar ring and use the boost controller to raise the boost.
squiffy
Definitely Do it yourself mate, the most awkward part of it will be getting on the 3 bolts where the 1st decat meets the turbos
D1andonlyantman
Ok, thanks for the advice. Looks like I'm going back on what I said when I bought the car, and am going to work on it myself. Really need to save some money right now where possible
mellonman
yep yourself as said the hardest bit is the 3 1st cat bolts , they are often seized , its just nuts and bolts simplest of tech out there . i pretty much done a single turbo conversion over 2 weekends
Supraleeturbo
I’m more than willing to help you mate if you want to make the drive but I’d advise calling lee perrymen at SRD mate
shaz2010
I did mine myself mate doesn’t take long, also cheated a little bit and I went to a garage to get the 3 bolts off the cat took them 20 mins and cost me £20 quid. Drove home 4 miles with the cat off from the manifold:)
D1andonlyantman
I do still need my clocks switching to mph, plus I'm getting new alloys and tyres all around, so I've asked Paul what's the best he can do me for all of the above with the BPU. Hopefully he's not too far away from what I can squeeze to, and then I'll get him to do the lot for ease and also a nice initial receipt for my fresh import. If not I'll have to think of the best way to tackle it all. Thanks for the advice though, at least now I know I've got options
BOB B
You'll love BPU, if you can get it done by a garage for a reasonable price then do it, but if it's too much then as everyone has said it's pretty basic to do.
rottweilaz02
This might be a noob question but i am doing the same all parts from gw. I started the FMIC install but am confused as to where the relocation of the ps cooler goes. Anyone care to help?
