Turbos and cooler air

Up here the weather has really switched in the last week or so. It's a lot cooler in the mornings and evenings and I'm finding that the car seems more responsive and the turbos seem louder and more, I dunno, like they are spinning easier or faster.

 

Is this okay or typical? I've read some stuff about cool air but it all got a bit technical for me and I went off to look at porn.

Quite normal, I get a big difference in performance between 40C summer temps and 4C winter temps here.

 

Put VERY simply

Cooler air = more dense, more dense = more oxygen, more oxygen = bigger bang, bigger bang = more power.

 

edit: [i'm talking bollox]The oxygen sensor will also tell the ECU that slightly more fuel is required to keep the mixture correct, which also accounts for the extra power.[/i'm taking bollox]

This winter will be the first time i have had a turbo'd car, for the record say at 3'c what kind of power gain will you get it cant be anymore than 3 bhp can it ??

 

Cos i really did not notice that much of a diffrence from my last car (02 plate civic type r)

 

LOADS more than 3bhp, with the temp differences I get here, I would estimate around 10% increase in power, between coldest and hotest days, possibly even more than that.

 

ps. that's with HKS R-Type FMIC fitted on stock turbos

Deffo, I certainly noticed a huge difference in power when I was in Germany, the first day it was scortching, maybe around 33oC and the car felt gutless, then it rained overnight and the temps were in the 20s and it felt so much nicer :)

I notice a big difference in throttle response when it's cold. I imagine that's partly because I have an aftermarket cone air filter. The max boost pressure also gets higher in cold weather, so I've turned my boost controller down a couple of times in the last week to keep it at 1.2 bar.
