Headlight bulbs & Wrapping a supra

Hey guys, I’ve just got my supra back up and running (aside from needing a new gearbox it was going well)

I have a bad set of HIDs in my car that work as and when they please, due to the placement of the box that has been eft hanging from way before I bought the car... question is I need some new ones, what has everyone got for theirs and where can I find them?

Also my secondary question... as I’m going over my car I’m finding more and more imperfections every time I look, it’s a factory silver, and I’m thinking about just wrapping it the factory black colour the supras come in, will this devalue the supra If it ever comes to re-sale?

Not entirely sure about it, would much rather respray but I cannot afford the price for a good job as I’ll be doing a manual conversion next month.

Thanks

Nick

Anyone that has removed the cats from their supra will need a ‘special’ mot anyway so I would think headlights are the last thing to worry about.

I got my hid kits years ago, slim HID kit on a group buy. Back then they were more expensive, now you just search eBay for slim hid kits and get loads cheap. If they break just put a new one in they are that cheap.

Plasti dip might be better than wrap if you want a new look sooner. I had some wrap on mine when I bought it and am very glad to see the back of it. Pealing at edges, warping, stuck like terd to a blanket everywhere else when removing.

Looks like retro fitted LED bulbs are also not allowed either if the headlights in question do not self level:

"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with a suspension or headlamp self-levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self-levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given."

For me its more of I’m tired of looking at new scratches on 26 year old paint work every day, I’ve got quite a lot of money to dish out on manual conversion etc, the ideal thing would be to repaint but just not viable for me any time soon, if the wrap ever comes off it will be for a repaint so it seems that’s the only thing people are criticising is the removing part

And as of the light situation, it’s what someone said above, the MOT thing isn’t my main concern as I’ve got a decat

My point was the wrap won't stick unless the paint underneath is perfect :)

Have a look at my F&F build. You'll notice i had to have the bumper, skirts, spats and mirrors painted.

I read it as, if the headlights didn't come with LED's or HID's then they were a fail

"Some vehicles may be fitted with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. It is not permitted to

convert existing halogen headlamp units for use with HID bulbs. If it is clear that such a conversion has

been carried out, rather than replacing the entire unit with one designed and approved for use with HID

bulbs, the headlamp should be rejected. "
