UK Spec alarm question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Need my memory refreshing, my Supra is currently in long term storage and is due out in the next few weeks and when it went in about 9 months ago the car and fob batteries were pretty knackered.

The boss of the storage place has arranged for a new battery (car) to be fitted and the stock alarm is going off when they connect and the fob does nothing. No LED so we suspect that the fob battery is faulty too.

Question, if it needs pairing it's hold down the black button for 15 plus seconds ?

Also, from memory the red button is just a panic button ? Arm and disarm are purely done by pressing the black one ?

Cheers

Press and hold the black button and it should silence it for a few seconds. Sometimes it doesn’t. Either way, put the key in and to the on position. Don’t start, and keep pressing and holding the black button until it stops. It’s a bit of a black art. I have to deal with it every spring when it comes out of hibernation too. It’s just the alarm is a pita.

Yes, red is just panic button.

Split the fob open and replace the battery in there. It’s an unusual size but easily ordered on eBay etc.

Cheers for the info, yeah I know it's OK when all batteries are charged but even more of a pain when trying to explain to the car storage guys via e-mail. Fingers crossed or it'll have to come back to me a 'non-runner'. Be a shame as I want my new neighbours to hear it coming off the transporter :-)

Dunno, mine has always had the factory fit one. Insurance companies make it up as they go along in my experience, I've always left it until the end of a quote and then added that I have Tracker fitted, they stumble a bit and then say it makes no difference to price.

In the early days Tracker was seen as a good way to reduce premiums, my advice is never to fit something just to get a lower premium as these things seem to be very much a case of 'flavour of the month' with Insurance firms.

Exactly the same as my 93 red Uk tt6

Maybe they changed them in later years like the headlining?

That’s off of our black 93 Uk Auto car, came with 2 of them. The Toyota McCarthy badge is still going strong which was the Toyota dealership we got it from many many years ago.

The alarm had a funny 10 minutes the other day just randomly going off and couldn’t shut it off, bloody nightmare they are!

I tend to leave my alarm off for this very reason, the garage is alarmed so I leave the car one off, in a new build with a state of the art alarm fitted so all hell breaks loose if it's triggered :D

Anyway, thanks to everyone for their advice, the good news is the storage company contacted me and they have finally paired the fob, both the fob and car have brand new batteries now and they started the car and let it warm up for a while and all seems well :)

Now I can't wait for it's arrival here in a couple of weeks, get it MOT'd / taxed and enjoy some sunny Essex coastal runs :)

Having a few years off work atm, 'career break' after a few stressful and crap years. So, plenty of time to enjoy the car and the summer if we ever get one. Now I'm in Essex I might even get to go to my first Supra meet after 17 years of owning one :D

My issues with the stock alarm are that if you leave the car undriven for 1 or 2 weeks it drains the battery, and also it arms the alarm it’s self if you get out the car, don’t lock it and open the door again 10 secs or so later and goes off.

Yes, the battery draining was bad with it. Old technology I guess. The auto alarm feature is designed for petrol station type of use where you leave your car but will alarm and go off is someone tries to get in, in your absence. I think you can disable it though using various button combinations I cant remember.

I can see how that might be useful I suppose. Disabling it would be good right enough.

Yeah, silly really as I've obviously got a passion for them having owned one for so long, just never got round to a meet. And the 'wheels', stunning if I say so myself but then they should be considering what they cost to refurb :D

This alarm system is a pain!

I had to use the boost pack when my battery came out the carcoon & when the system locks up & the red light flashes I have to 1) Open Hood & disconnect battery 2) Close doors & lock 3) Reconnect battery 4) Close hood & wait a few seconds 5) Press Black button on key fob
