supRo
Hi, I have done a search... I will have my UK spec setup put on in about three weeks time however my current j-spec pads are totally worn. I've got hold of a used pair as I only need them for few weeks. But I've never changed pads before and don't want to pay someone just to have them on for 3 weeks! Phoenix will put my UK spec on. Are the jap pad change procedure same as honda accord/prelude calipers? > bottom caliper bolts off and the caliper swings upwards???? Do the jap spec have pins?? Step by step guide will be really cool! Cheers, Ro
Guest gzaerojon
i did mine a few weeks back, i was supprised how easy it was. top caliper bolts off then it just swings down. remember to take off the anti squeel shims off the old pads and put em on the other ones if they've not already got them. and res cap off when pushing pistons back in. i did have a step by step procedure but it was a loada **** as it told me to remove the caliper and pipe... i made my own way round enjoy
supRo
Do you happen to remember the size of that bolt in question....It's just I've cracked my 12mm socket!!!! Cheers, Ro
supRo
and do I brush copper paste/grease (On the non contact side obviously!), and then put the anti squeel shim over it? Thanks
Guest gzaerojon
err i think it was 12 or 13... or was it 17? its easier with a spanner though. yes on the copper grease, although i didn't (forgot to get some, then car undrivable Doh!!) no squeels yet touch wood
daveburwash
After searching on here for advice I saw a respected member saying throw the shims and springs away, is the the way to go or not??
absz
as far as i'm aware---the shims are there for anti-squeel reasons only so then is no reason to apply copper grease ( as grease attracts more dirt and grit to stick onto pads) so yes you can remove shims and use copper grease between contact surfaces of pistons to pads. and please note that is my understanding anyway. please don't sue me if i'm wrong
Guest gzaerojon
i can sort of see how the anti squeel shims would work as they're made of some dense material so this would deaden the sound, bit like dynamat i guess. not sure about removing them though, i've not tried this yet
