Matt _Aero top_
Hi folks I'm in the market for a second cat and have been offered one in good condition off a VVTI . Now I understand for it to fit my non VVTI I'll need to blank the oxygen sensor port off but I've been told VVTI cat doesn't have the honeycomb on the inside , surely this would render it from being a catalyst . Can anyone clear this up and help me out in if this would be ok on my car for the emissions test as I have a first decat so totally reliant on the second for MOT day Thanks Matt
Chris Wilson
All MKIV cats have a metallic honeycomb inside unless they have been gutted somehow. Only EU / UK / US spec MKIV's have a second O2 sensor in the second cat, (the hole for which which can be blanked off, I have the proper kit to do this elegantly and removably) the Jap VVTi / pre VVTi ones do not. That aside all second cats will interchange. A VVTi first cat will only fit a VVTi turbo set up, the top flange angle is different. A UK / EU / US spec front cat will only fit UK / EU / US spec turbos, it has a much bigger top flange.
