Splitting rear lights

Recommended Posts

I need to split two rear lights to make up one good unit.

I have read the previous posts on here but most are quite old now.

I dare say that the method remains the same.

I have had one unit in the oven for 30 minutes at 90 degrees c wrapped in a towel and the glue is showing little (if any) sign of melting.

I am looking for a guide to temperature and time in the oven please.

Obviously, I don't want to melt the lenses, but so far I don't think I am close.

I did this the other week on an audi RS4 headlight and did 150 degrees for 10 mins and it simply peeled open!

I did the one with the bad lense first to try it and also kept checking it every few mins.

Great - thanks. I got the strong impression that 90 degrees was too low. Did you wrap the unit with a cloth in the oven?

No I just put it straight on the shelf the only issue I had was it touched the back of the oven where the fan housing (I had it on fan setting) and the heating element is inside and it did melt very slightly but it straightened out with a little heat.

Good luck I did look on you tube too but one said 220 degrees for 10 mins so I just guessed:D

The body seems to be made of PP-t20 which has a melt point of 240 degrees but a maximum operating temp of 100. I am going to reduce the amount of material wrap and increase the oven temp to 100 and if that doesn't work to 110 centigrade. The question is how long in the oven to get the whole unit evenly heated?
