fueling issues :-(

So I have had my supra for a grand total of 4 days, within that time I've had 3 call outs from the AA, a pass on an MOT and 260 miles of smiles.

The issues started before I got it. 7 months ago, the engine would turn over but not fire. My brother at the time did not have the time / money to sort the fault.

When I go to pick the car up for my maiden 500 mile journey, (knowing full well it does not work) the AA man comes, attaches a boost pack to the battery and the car fires into life.

Quick trip to the MOT station, PASS and off I head to bonny scotland.

200 miles into the journey, my rev count does some twitching, a few hiccups and then the car carries on. BUT, only in 3rd gear, I stop add some fuel, drink some coffee, try again, car pulls off onto the motorway just fine, 3 miles latter, same again. So off the motorway, and phone AA man.

They come car relayed home over night.

Rolled off the wagon, started and ran just fine.

Following morning, take the car for its first sight seeing trip to the lochs of scotland, running sweet, happy in the sunshine. Then, hiccups rev count all over the shop, then cuts out completely. AA back out, back of the wagon again, and relayed home. Next morning, car would crank but not fire.

The car itself is an L-plate NA, convertible with 90k miles on the clock. No mods that I know of other than after market immobiliser.

My thoughts for what its worth is a fault with the throttle position sensor, and that was going to be my first port of call.

All suggestions, help greatly appreciated.

(note: I work away from home so can't do a great deal quickly :-( )

  • 1 month later...

When I said I was not around much, it really is the case. Away for months on end then back for short periods.

But reading error codes: I'll freely admit to being a bit slow, but when I short out the E1 TE1 pins the only thing that happens is a flashing o/d off light. Flashes regularly and never stops. I'm assuming that there is no fault codes stored (is that right)

The second point is that the battery was so flat that my RING charger could not recognise it as a battery. So this might be a simple shorting issue - which might not be to simple to find!
