TrickTT
Do those stinger devices you guys use work on 'run flat' tyres? Just curious...
Steve W
Run Flats aren't designed for High Speeds, only to drive safely when punctured (. . . . i THINK ? ?) They are supposed to stay on the rim and have VERY stiff sidewalls to hold the wheel off the floor. Think they have a low speed 'limit' on them ?? So, they WOULD get punctured, wouldn't STOP the vehicle, but would make it crash through the nearest House or School !?!?! The time the Stinger WON'T work is if they ever persue the NON-pneumatic (AIRless) tyre idea PROPERLY (not sure the tyre manufacturers actual WANT punctureless tyres ? ? ? ? ) OR, if the tyre has enough of that 'SLIME' in it ???????? tbourner
I heard it wouldn't work on run-flats, hence someone has designed a new 'mat' for stopping cars that the police can use - basically a mat with barbs on it that catch on the tyre (regardless of run-flat/airless etc.) and wraps itself around it stopping the wheel from spinning. Ian R
No they don't stop run flats http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/v3/showpdf.cfm?pdfname=OPS_D147.pdf aparently the reinforced wall will enable the vehicle to continue at high speeds

I've seen video of these in action, they are very impressive as they bring the car to a controlled stop.
