muckyman
Hi all, I've always been keen on what I deem to be 'interesting' or 'unusual' cars, and am thinking about a supercharged GT86 (likely the Cosworth conversion) as a potential next car. Has anyone had any first hand experience of them that they could share? ta Michael
el_bandido
Get in touch with Fensport, they might take you out in one.
Scooter
None, but I have heard of a few engine issues with remapped normally aspirated ones and so the longevity might be an issue (more so than tweaking a 2JZ)
Gaz6002
Yes. I test drove Cosworth's demo car when I was running an 86 with work. It's mega, as you'd expect. The exhaust note sounded a little strange, but it's a far better idea than turbocharging a car like that. The one I drove had 320hp or so and felt supercar quick. I don't say that lightly... Personally, I'd go for the conversion, but it'll need supporting mods to make it great. You need wider wheels, sticker tyres, uprated brakes and the ECU with switchable maps using the cruise control stalk (VERY cool). My review (and a short video) can be found here on update 10: https://www.parkers.co.uk/toyota/gt86/coupe-2012/long-term-reviews/toyota-gt86-12-on-toyota-touch-2-with-go-20-boxer-d-4s-2d/
Mk4Gaz
Lee shurtey on here has one, I forget his username. It's awesome, and will easily keep up with bpu supras, if not outrun them. There are definitely worse ways to spend your money

Richie_k83
Had a go in both HKS Europe's and the Cosworth one, both are great fun. Worth mentioning we are actually the main distributor for Cosworth Aftermarket and have been for almost 2.5 years. We carry plenty of the Cosworth and HKS kits in stock, if needed. Additionally, HKS have a Turbo kit coming out in the not too distant future for the FA20, although I believe you need additonal Engine work to suit (not confirmed)
muckyman
Thanks Richie. I've had many turbo cars in the past but only one supercharged (a VX220) I really like the power delivery with the supercharger and am keen to have another. Will likely go the Cosworth route

Will likely go the Cosworth route No worries, just putting it out there lol. Supercharger is good, no lag. Also, I forgot to say, we offer a smaller pulley option from Cosworth too. These are 10% smaller than the one supplied, which gives an additional 1.5psi of Boost and around 15-20hp increase! As an additional bonus, you dont need a different size Belt and no changes to the Cosworth MAP. Ideal upgrade before or after you have the kit fitted
