Glover
This morning when I got to work, the cat temp sensor and battery warning lights came on in the car and the radio kept turning off. Turned the car off and it wouldn't start again. But after getting out and putting the alarm on and getting in again, it started up with no lights? Am I looking at alternator failure or something else if anyone has had the same issue. Cheers
mattdavies
Mine did the same with the oil level sensor light and it was the alternator. Lee at SRD sorted me out with a new alternator very quickly

mellonman
could be crank pulley split into half's also which would stop the alternator spinning correctly as well as water pump and power steering
jagman
The cat temp sensor ,the rear light warning sensor and the oil level warning sensor are all voltage sensitive , so you could get false warnings with low volts ; so toyota added a diode to each of these that is connected to the alternator wire that feeds the charge warning light . IF the alternator volts drops below battery volts all 3 lights should come on plus the charge light - how bright they come on depends on how low the volts go and the condition of the diode and bulbs - some or all may come on IF crank pulley snapped or such the lights all 4 would be very bright , max volts drop across the bulbs , if its a slight undervolt then one or more would glow getting brighter as the alt output drops Alternator wise they dont go much past 100000 miles , the commutators wear out , everyone should expect an alternator fail , there are two connector types on the alternators and there is a conversion lead available to change from one to another

He put a battery with a full charge on to get home. Had a look this morning and it looks like I've had an oil leak from near the alternator and I think that's what's finally pushed it over the edge, and it's done 140k miles so it was due! New alternator end of the month and have a look why I'm get an oil leak and it'll be back on the road!
Konrad
Oil leak is most likely from power steering if tank/pump is above alternator. If alternator is not charging at the moment, only part you need to buy is regulator and then either fit it yourself or ask any alternator/starter place to fit and test it. Regulator can be bought for around 15 pounds as Toyota is using same stuff for MR2, Celica, Supra and many more. Just make sure your plug fits. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/09G191-ALTERNATOR-Regulator-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-3-0-4-2-TD-D-4-5-Supra-3-0-i/253149827220?hash=item3af0e7d094:g:mIIAAOSwMNxXZAdy Edited January 17, 2018 by Konrad (see edit history)

With the miles and the age of the car I'm thinking it would be a good idea to put a new alternator on anyways.
Scooter
yes will do i think, is yours an NA? if so the oil leak is likely to be from the distributor oil seal.
