norman1979
I have a knocking noise coming from the rear on my recently acquired Supra. I have had it up on a ramp and the bolts have all been checked along with the bushes. There is a slight play one of the bushes in the top arm but the knocking is really loud . Can anybody help on where I can buy one from? Or alternatively advise what else it could be as everything has been checked and there is no play anywhere. Dnk
Shock absorber/damper perhaps
norman1979
I was thinking that too Dunk as there are some aftermarket jobbies on there that are as tight as a ducks arse. Not sure if you can actually check the shocks to see if they are shot except for taking them off and checking? Its easier to check on normal cars that bounce but this doesnt at all. evinX
Just push each corner down. If it drops and does not return upwards the shocks knackered. Easy test. Another tell tale will be oil around the shock
jimjam92
I have a similar problem - exactly the same symptoms, think it might be internal on one of the coilovers but been told to check it's not loose bolts on the rear subframe. Doing that tomorrow and will see if it makes any difference.

Another tell tale will be oil around the shock The problem is each corner does not go down. The rear suspension is too stiff and you actually cant push it down. No oil around the shock either. Let me know how it goes JimJam. I havent got coilovers on mine but could be something inside the shock I guess. Its a really loud knocking sound

Its a really loud knocking sound Will do, originally thought it might have been the tops of the coilovers but on inspection they seem fine with no movement. rider
Exhaust pipe hitting the sub frame, worthile checking your mounts are there and not perished?

Its a really loud knocking sound Heard from the garage this morning. They've checked all the subframe bolts and they are fine, so are going to strip down the passenger side suspension to see if they can find anything wrong with the coilover. Supra-love
My nitron coil-overs had a knock but sounded more like a very loud bang! With a visual check and even after taking them off the car couldn’t see any issues but, Turns out it needed regassing. I would say it’s a shock absorber mate as a guess without seeing Where in bucks are you? jimjam92
Any luck JimJam? Nope, had the suspect coilover out and looked fine. Now thinking possibly just an anti roll bar link? Going to try disconnecting the ARB to see if that then cures the noise, then I'll know if it's just drop links. Really confused as everything is tight with no play or noticeably worn or perished bushes anywhere.
norman1979
Yep same issue as me. Everything has been checked a couple of times and no movement. I think it might be the D Bush
norman1979
Did you manage to fix this JimJam? I still havent got round to it on mine
jimjam92
Did you manage to fix this JimJam? I still havent got round to it on mine Unfortunately not, think I'm going to just blitz the whole problem by ordering a whole front and rear bush kit, and new coilovers all round. Whifbitz does a whole package which includes uprated ARBs so may as well use this as an opportunity to upgrade. My biggest worry is that this does not solve it, which will most likely mean it's one of the dreaded rear arms
jimjam92
Did you manage to fix this JimJam? I still havent got round to it on mine Update on this - believe I have found the source of my knock. It would seem the driver's side rear coilover is knocking internally. Had all the rear trim out and a mate sit in the back whilst driving slowly down some rough roads. He could feel it moving under his hand. Upon closer inspection there are faint signs of leaking - the fluid inside is slightly corrosive and has eaten away at the surface of the coilover - although at a glance just looks to have cleaned it so probably why I missed this, as well as slight scorch marks at the top of the damper rod where it has dried out. Going to order a whole new set and hopefully cure this for good!
