GetawayDriver
this one is only 3-4cm and is the devil himself. most evil creature i've ever come across. i've lost 3 fish already and my bloodshrip now only has 5 legs. it even attacks a stick i use to feed anenomes. plexi-glass tank is best eventually, they get to be about 30cm long. They have been known to smash glass tanks. a diver even lost some fingers to one in came accross in the wild. pretty easy to keep though as they will kill and eat pretty much anything, they do need pretty good water conditions though. tbourner
The common mantis shrimp usually inhabits the middle- to high-salinity waters of the lower Bay, and grows to a length of 8 to 10 inches. Often called the "shrimp snapper" by watermen and respected for the swift slashing of its claws, which can slice a shrimp or fish in two (and lacerate a hand), the mantis shrimp is also edible and has a reputation for being very tasty. Similar species are considered an important sea food outside the Western Hemisphere. Wouldn't fancy trying to get it out of the tank though!! And google came back with another name for it - thumb splitter!!!
colsoop
I had a look on google at the dteails of the shrimp and this stuck out to me They use specialized raptorial appendages to capture and subdue prey by either "spearing" the animals or "smashing" them with heavily calcified clubs. The force of the strike of a large Californian species approaches that of a 22 caliber bullet, and is capable of breaking double layered safety glass. They are, weight for weight, probably the most formidable animals alive. I remeber watching a wildlife programme that used specialist slow mo cameras and you could actually see a shockwave as the little bugger struck out with its claw and attacked its pray
Faye Brother
Rather off topic, but I read the thread title and thought it was some sort of kit car for sale! Sounds a real beast, though. Perhaps you could hire it out as an aquarium 'enforcer'?
