how_supra
My car has been sat at the garage for almost a month now. Two weeks of that the garage has been promising my car will be ready, on this day, on that day and each time I've rang up to find out, I've been fobbed off with "oh we haven't started it yet?" WTF Every single day that passes adds to the expense because I have had to hire a car. This is not the first time this garage has messed me about before, but like a mug I went back for more. Now I'm really worried that they are going to charge me stupid amounts of money. I had quotes for £500 to swap engines round initially. But this garage simply states that its £40 an hour and won't commit to anything. Does anyone think it will take longer than 13 hours to complete an engine swap? I want my car back.....................
monkey76364
Is there no way of getting your car taken some where else, they seem to just be messing you about and I bet you get a huge bill for work that they never did
how_supra
Is there no way of getting your car taken some where else, they seem to just be messing you about and I bet you get a huge bill for work that they never did I rang on Tuesday and they said it would be ready today [even though they hadn't started it] I rang this morning, and they said one engine is out [so I can't get it taken anywhere else now - crap] and I should have it by the weekend. Apparently. I'm going down there lunch time definately, to find out. I have £700 available to pay for this only. If it costs more i'm screwed. Pete
Sounds to me like they're putting it off for a reason. Kind of like "one of those nasty jobs you'd rather not touch". Do they know what they're doing?
how_supra
Sounds to me like they're putting it off for a reason. Kind of like "one of those nasty jobs you'd rather not touch". Do they know what they're doing? They should do. They have worked on Jap cars before. Each time I've been down there they've had mr2's and so on. The guy who runs it builds kit cars etc as well. So I kinda hope they know what they are doing. He is a garage recommended by Jame's family so that's why I took the car to him, as I thought he would have at least been honest with me. I'm sure its a girl thing - they just see female and think stupid.
Ceptik
I didnt know you were a girl! Shows how much i pay attention to these thread! Learning something new everyday. Seriously though, in my experience, all/most garages seem to fob people off with some silly story. I had problems with my skirts putting fitted. Kept changing their mind as to when it was gonna be finished. Finally did get it back and the job is awful!!!

Not meaning to be sexist now but when you go down there at lunch or when ever you will pop down, why dont you take a bloke with you or even a couple, see if they give you the same crap then. And ask to see the car so you can see how much they have done or not to it ??? Then if they do at leaste you know not to use them again as they are tossers lol ... but then if they have messed you about this time i doubt you will go back any way ! The service man would not talk to me, he only talked to James, even though it was my flippin car. Ever since then I assum all garages to be sexist. How do you prove how long they have been working on the car thats my concern? You shouldnt have to but some times you need to do things that aren right :thumbdown And as for how long they have had it, dont they keep a record of all the cars they take in on site for insrance ect. And a booking in book so they dont over book each day (if they are that busy). Plus all your papper work form the day you got your hire car, why would you pay out for that if you had your own !!!!!! (not that theat means much in court though)
Pete
The guy who runs it builds kit cars etc as well. So I kinda hope they know what they are doing. Believe me - different kettle of fish. I built my kitcar (including the entire engine rebuild), but I would never attempt to repair my Supra engine.

He races them privately as well and rebuilds them.
Pete
He races them privately as well and rebuilds them. Probably explains it then. These race types would rather be racing or working on their own (and mates) competition stuff than pulling in money half the time.

SteveR
Sucks! Hope you get it sorted soon - deffo take some chaps with you when you visit... it's not right that you should have to but it seems it's the way of some garages & might save you a lot of b/s and time & money. Take James.. he's a no-nonsense sort of chap but still polite with it - he'd talk them round to having it finished and valet'd by this afternoon for a fiver I reckon Good luck hon! SteveR
If I lived closer and thought I'd be the slightest help I'd be there... instead I'll just keep my fingers crossed I guess - sorry that's all I can do I think a good explaining needs to happen; "you have told me on several occasions that my car will be ready on dates that have now long past" and "I hope you aren't expecting me to pay the full price if you add any more delay" type stuff - said politely but firmly maybe... not knowing the people I'm not sure how you far can push it, but something needs to be said - explain that the hire car is costing you money too. They're taking the mick, tell them they are and that you want treating fairly else you'll trailer it away. Tell them they were recommended to you by 'X' and that although they mucked you about the first time you gave them the benefit of the doubt and had hoped things woud improve the 2nd time around. Then maybe go into a bit of detail with them about how far thay've go with the job, and get them/you to suggest what is left to do, so they know you have some technical/mechanical understanding and they should repsect you like they seem to respect blokes (not that I know much about 'em, lol). Dunno what sort of stuff (ecu need changing with this engine swap by any chance?, what about replacing fuel lines, engine mounts, erm.... maybe people here can suggest things you can mention. Again, good luck!

Again, good luck! Thanks steve. I'd go on the FTO forum and ask, but I only ever go on there if I really have to as I seem to cause arguments. I had quotes from other garages for around£500 to change the engine round. If they try and charge me more than £700 I want to see logs. Wish me luck, I'm going there now

absz
the book times for remove and refit engine complete is 6.6 hours. and for remove & fit exchange engine (ie tranfer all wiring/switches/pipe/turbos etc) is 11.5 hours garages do tend to charge 2/3 hours on top of book times
