Milo500
So I have managed to buy an na 5 speed for cheap (alongside my single auto). It has 104k km on it and has been sat for 3 years. Luckily it is perfect apart from a tapping noise (after a filter and oil change). What do people think it could be, sticky lifter? It definately isn't bottom end, is more of a high pitch rattle/tap, but pretty much goes once warm. I havn't been able to put my foot down or take it on a drive more that 50 yards as it's lacking an mot at that he moment. Cheers, Tom

Milo500
Check the water pump with a long screwdriver and put your ear on the end ,mine was making a tapping noise . Sounds more like it's coming fro the top end, it happens when cold, but goes when it revs over about 2k. Pulling away it feel as if it is misfiring until about 2k is... Does that sound like valve's? Or could it just be lifters and need a good drive.?
Dave
you could try the screwdriver method on the rocker cover ,or the ac pump or alternator.doesnt sound serious though.
Chris Wilson
Take the auxillary belt offf and see if it goes. Check the plugs are tight, I see people trying to change N/A plugs with minimal dismantling and leaving the loose. Just guesses, could be almost anything.
