griffsplace
My steering pump is still very noisy after putting new fluid in, when you turn the steering wheel. I was considering buying one of the ones on eBay, considerably cheaper than genuine and even a refurbished. Anyone tried one?
Swampy442
Have you cleaned the reservoir out?
griffsplace
yep I did got loads of black flakey bits out of it used some detergent and gave it a real good shake. I have pulled the pump and the new fluid looks pretty dirty already. The ebay pumps look like the correct item. Any idea how much a Toyota rebuild kit would be. keron
Those eBay ones are useless. I had 2 from 2 different suppliers and both failed in minutes of fitting them. The centre shaft was moving back and forward about 5 mm....shredded the belt too. Poor quality Chinese items..... It fitted ok though
Swampy442
Get a Toyota rebuild kit for about 30 quid, do it yourself
griffsplace
Ah brilliant, I will get in touch with my local Toyota for a rebuild kit. Need some new calliper bleed nipples as well.
griffsplace
Started the strip down tonight, opened the pump up, its a bit dirty, but nothing obviously causing any problems, all the vanes are there in one piece, no really bad scoring etc, will go down to the dealers tomorrow to order the rebuild kit. Not convinced its going to make any difference. I do still need to check the flow control valve seals, but will do that tomorrow with compressed air as suggested.
