Chase
Hi all, Installed my RLTC last weekend, but I've only had chance to test it today. I've been trying my hardest to get it to kick in in the wet, but it doesn't seem to want to. I tried the launch button, hoping it would hold the revs at the set limit but I was able to rev round to 4K with no problem. I connected the laptop and have been for a drive while traclog was running. The 4 wheel inputs are registering values no problem, but the RPM showed 0 for the whole trace, but the LED was flashing and increasing it's flash rate in relation to the RPM. I've tried both traclog and Graham's app to view the RPM while revving the engine, and both show 0. I've also used the diagnostic section of procomm to cut the engine, and it stalled as expected. I'm going to re-check the wiring tomorrow to make sure the RPM wire is connected securely, but it's just confusing me how the LED can flash as expected, but the system not cut in and the 2 laptop apps not register any RPM values. It's a 94 GZ Auto, running with a DAT file supplied by Phil. I checked the DAT file and it doesn't appear to have altered itself. Guest Martin F
The diagnostic LED may be flashing with the ABS sensors not the RPM. Have you checked it whilst stationary ? Regardless it seems like you have a problem with the RPM input anyway. Which pin did you connect the RPM input to?
Chase
Martin, RPM wire is connected to the red/yellow wire on the left-hand side of the ecu connector. The LED is flashing in time with the revs when the cars parked and when it's moving (control set to off or 20%), when moving the LED is flashing correctly in time with al 4 wheel speed, when the control knob is move to the other settings (wet -> 20%). The wheel speeds are also registering correctly in traclog. Another thing I noticed was while I was parked with the engine at idle, the laptop plugged in with traclog running and the control knob set to off, I turned the control knob to 20% to turn the unit on, and I got a load of what seems like crap data on the screen (I've got the dat file if any wants a look), with traces going up and down very erratically, wheel speeds were shown bouncing between 0 and over 100, this is while I was at a stand still!! What are the chances of the box being faulty, I know SupraSapphire has just had his changed because it was faulty. One other thing, I set up the change light to come on at various RPM's and tested again. It didn't come on. This leads me to believe that the box can't see the RPM's but if that is the case, then how can the LED flash in time with the revs and increase it's flash rate, when I rev the engine? Is it worth jacking up the rear and and trying the wheel spin test, I've already tried one wheel on grass, and booting it but nothing happened. Guest Martin F
To be honest 'red/yellow' wire doesn't really give me a lot of infomation. Anyway the RPM wire i usually go for is black and white and located on connector A at pin 16. http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/terminals_of_ecm/index.html Try moving your RPM wire to this location and see if it cures your problems. Fingers crossed.
Chase
Martin, Sorry, it's pin A1-T (3rd row down, 3rd from left, pin 28 strating from top right of connector A) according to the supplied J-spec TT install sheet. I might swap the wire to the black/white one, but I'm a bit reluctant to as I've connected the wire where the instructions tell me to connect to and the LED is flashing in time with the revs. So all should be OK. I've got a feeling if I did this, it would still not work. Should I still try it? I've just noticed the install sheet for the J2Z-GT mentions a black/white wire for rpm signal. Appreciate the help on this.
Chase
Martin - You are a star mate, did as you suggested and all is fine!! I noticed that the LED flashing is a lot quicker on pin 16 than the other pin which was flashing once every half second or so, I wonder if it is some sort of modified RPM signal? Any cheers for that, I'm off out for a play, er, er, I mean to do some research
Guest Martin F
Glad it's all sorted, have fun.
