And... the worst has come to pass. Warped Head.

If the head has warped this bad, who knows what other damage is hiding in there. Without a bare-bones rebuild you'll never be certain.

Personally, I wouldn't bother salvaging it.

I think you could be right. The garage next door said the block looks fine, it's the head that's, in their technical terms, "fucked".

I think I may go with all of you onbuying a new head - I guess I just transfer everything over to the new one from the old? valves n all?

Porting n polishing sounds liek a plan depending on how much it will cost, if I get the head cheap enough. a 2nd hand head should do fine if I clean it up - no need to skim unless it's doity!

Thanks for all the suggestions btw guys...

Hi

Just a word of warning if your skimming the head.

If its warped by .5 mm (.020") you can skim off the head face to true it back but the cam journals will be out of line by the .5mm (.020") that the head warped by so not really a great idea imo as i'd have thought this will cause excess cam journal wear, not sure how quick that would show up but i'd not risk it and get a new or s/h head.

Ofcourse unscrupilous pps would skim the head put it back on and fingers crossed or even sell the car on to someone else.
