billski
So, I first heard an intermittent rotational clunking noise at slow speed in traffic about 30 miles ago. When I arrived home it was much more consistent and louder. Tried to start the car next day and it won't turn over. Plenty of battery power and no clicking. (Sorry - manual tt)

Guest Rsb
Could it be starter motor if battery ok, or fuel pump?
Scooter
It could be yes Was it clunking only when moving or at idle too. Have you tried turning it manually, 22mm socket on the crank pulley, try as is and then without the aux belt if you can't with.
billski
Only when moving Scooter that's what's a bit weird cos I don't think it's coincidence. Yeh I'll try the the crank pulley later no time atm, thx
Al Massey
Broken cp shouldn't affect it cranking over I was thinking if it had broken during the drive, none of the auxiliaries would have worked which would cause other problems. - - - Updated - - - When you say wont turn over, is it cranking or is there nothing? Scooter
Check the alternator pulley if you do remove the belt........some similarities to Jive's issue from way back! http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?105408-Help-1-Dead-Supe-(not-crashed)&highlight=straw
billski
Well - I just turned the crank pulley by hand. Tried again started np. Something must have been jammed!! Too scared to drive it atm lol so don't know about the clunking hopefully it's just the parking brakes.
Scooter
Could be the starter motor as these can go intermittent before completely failing.
stevie_b
Could be the starter motor as these can go intermittent before completely failing. Agreed - thats what happened to mine. I'd try to start it and absolutely nothing would happen. No clicking, no cranking, no anything. I'd leave it a few seconds and try again, and it would start with no problems. I had the contacts on the starter motor refurbed, and that fixed the problem.
Chris Wilson
First check if the starter motor is loose. If so tighten it, if not remove and inspect. Whilst down there see if the flywheel / flex plate is loose.
gdog1989
Mine done that before it was the starter that had packed up
