Bobbeh
Same with a lot of things, if its something you want to study you can get a lot of info from a dead specimen on an operating table rather than trying to do the same job nearly 1k meters under the sea. Ceptik
While trying not to steer too far away from the thread, does anyone else fear the depths of the oceans? I hate not knowing whats beneath me. Started when i was out swimming in the sea in Cyprus when i was about 15 i guess. Happily swimming along and could see the ocean floor quite clearly until i suddenly found myself hovering over what looked liked a deep, black hole in the sea floor. I could've swam around it because it was literally just a round swirl of water that dropped down but the circle was only about 3 metres wide. That was enough for me. I prompted shat myself, turned around and swam back to shore as if Jaws was out hunting again! My god did i swim fast!!! Will always remember that day. Bob
I did my advanced open water diving when I was 15 - deepest I've been was 40m. I love the sea, it's like a completely different world down there. Giant squid? Where can I get an industrial sized bucket of black bean sauce then . . . I hate not knowing whats beneath me. I used to be a bit like that, but changed when I tried scuba - it's the lack of visibility that gets you from above the water. When you get down into it, it all changes. Learned to dive in 30 metres vis. in the Maldives - that kinda' chills you out.

LMAO 30 metres! while i was training in plymouth we considered 3 metres good vis! most of the time if you wanted to check your air then you had to put the gauge on your mask
Stu_Fraser
Ive got my Open water diver qualification..... love being in the water and seeing whats down there Seen some squid about three feet long when i went diving in Malta and i thought they were on the large side

Had to "navigate" to find the compass, forget actually going anywhere! Did the Kyarra too (where those people died a few months back) - that was fun - about 3 metres vis, and cold enough to pass me off as honorary female!
