boostman
Went to lift the rear with a trolly jack and some wood between the cup and diff. When I started lifting it was making a rather disconcerting creaking, like the sound of serveraly rusty sheet metal bending and breaking.... I only lifted maybe 3 inches then let it back down again. Anyone else jack from the diff with any issues? Thanks
Rajinder
Always jacked from the diff with no issues.
Mike2JZ
I always jack off the diff or front subframe. Maybe your suspension was creaking? Or your diff mounts are severely worn
stevie_b
Same here, always done it with no problems.
and1c
Diffs a solid point to jack from. was probably the wood crunching
squiffy
Just make sure you are on the underside of the diff and not under the backplate
boostman
It was a very odd noise, but if there no damage to be done I'll stop listening and jack away!Just make sure you are on the underside of the diff and not under the backplate /QUOTE]What do you mean back plate? I had the jack under the smooth bit in the center of the diff.

I have jacked from here loads of times and you have nothing to worry about as long as you are under the diff casing.
Wez
As above, never had an issue jacking the rear from the diff, easiest place to access
boostman
Thanks for the reassurance, I'll give it another go this evening or tomorrow [emoji106]
Scooter
Tyres can also make a funny noise as you lift and drop as they sort of scuff inwards on the way up and outwards when you drop it down. When it's up, take a close look at the rear diff bushes as you see any perishing cracks at their worst. Does you car have both bushes? rider
The diff is a solid heavy lump, I know - I'm getting mine ready for paint at the moment. So nothing in the diff or the frame its attached to is going to creak or groan on lifting a car. Needs checking out though till you are sure everything is there, in the correct place and secure. Does you car have both bushes? No it just has the single bush which is in good condition, I'll check the rest when it's on stands. There wasn't any movement from the diff, each pump of the jack moved the car not the diff. I think I was just being a fanny when it was creaking [emoji14]

machman
Yes it's it's the recommended jack point according to the manual, just remove any extra load from the boot.
