Keep auto or manual?

Hi guys,

I know there are alot of threads about manual converting, however this is slightly different.

So the car is running 500, gte engine and single converted.

The auto box has two large oil coolers, and has never missed a beat...until now (I think).

When on hi boost it feels like the tc is slipping (almost feels like a clutch slip) but then it stops slipping for about half a second and then slips again, over and over...when driving normally it's perfect to drive as always and on low boost its not as bad as hi boost.

Now does this sound like the box, the converter, or even the diff? Or does it sound like it needs the box filter and fluid changing?

If it turns out the box or converter is knackered, then what shall be done? This is where I am asking for opinions.

Do I get a better tc possibly high stall.

Build the box.

Manual convert it, not a getrag supra 6 speed (I'm not rich haha).

M3 320 box, cheaper bmw box, 350z box?

I have nothing against autos, and don'y mind people always being like...ohh it's an auto supra, or when are you manual converting it. Just looking at the best option.

What do people recommned and what is the cheapest, as I will be doing all the work myself.

Looking to do it, not on the cheap, but not looking at spending like 5k

Thanks guys.

Theres only one person who could really know. DavidP.

Im pro Auto. Never understood the point of manuals when you can just put it in D and go :D

Yea I agree haha, however I don't drive it every day now, and if it's going to cost me 1-2k to put a good tc or auto box build in it, it might just be worth spending the same/bit more and making it manual...however it depends what the problem is to start with tbf

Its all personal preference. Ive a manual but id love a auto. Ive become lazy. Manual is great wjth reguards to kicking the back end out.

If i were to go auto then id be looking at burnas new flappy paddle range rover kit that he deveolped himself with help.of other forum members.

Or id be going lexus 7speed auto by SRD or bmw by wifblitz.

350z manual or an t56 (in the end will cost as much as the oem 6speed but the boxes are cheaper.)

It sounds like the gearbox itself, screaming for mercy in its death throws. Is the fluid discoloured and smelly? If not it probably soon will be, it won't last long like that!

What can be done if it is the box itself? I've done alot with manual boxes in terms of uprating them, but not too sure with autos. As if it was the tc I would probs just get a decent aftermarket one or a higher stall.

Also where is this forum from DavidP for the a340e?

Thanks for the feedback guys

I have looked through all the forums about swapping to a manual.

However none of them actually state all the components needed for tge conversion.

I am looking at the e36 m3 6 speed manual gearbox.

Is there are other conversion kits other than the expensive abc kit?
