Fag end cameras ?

Just been sent a letter from Poole Council....Ive been spotted throwing a fag end out of my car by a council employee and its been reported to the police...Im due a summons and probably a fine. Be careful out there guys.....

I didn't realise you could report scumbags for this - that's excellent news, I absolutely hate it when people launch small incendiary devices at my freshly polished paint instead of placing them carefully in the recepticle provided in their vehicle.

I did once hear of baby seat (with the baby in it) being set on fire after a thrown fag end was caught by the wind and entered the car beind through an open window. I agree with mcanny that it should be stopped. If you don't like the smell or mess of using your ash tray then don't smoke in your car.

Its often classed as driving without dure care and attention apparently. A police officer had words with me a couple of years back for doing it. Im sorry, but it is a complete waste of the courts time. If they want to do something, then why dont they ban smoking whilst driving? Im a smoker and wouldnt mind that.

Agreed. Got a smoldering butt in my air intake once (oo-er missus!!!) and could smell the ciggy-smoke in my car - the car that I refuse to eat, drink or even fart in, to keep it good.

Why not ban smoking completely? It is a known killer and yet the government does nothing? They say they want us to be safe and hence ensure we wear bike helmets and seat belts and yet they allow people to continue smoking.

 

I dont suppose it is anything to do with the revenue they get on cigarette sales eh?

One of the bike magazines used to do feature where they analyized different bike crashes. I remember one case where a guy had crashed his bike and killed himself on a perfectly straight road for apparently no reason. When the ambulance chaps took the dead guy's crash helmet off they found a fag butt lodged between the side of his face and the inside of the helmet.

It would seem that he was riding along with his visor open and following behind a car. The car driver threw the fag butt out of the window and the unlucky biker caught it in the face.

I've also read reports of 'fags' being sucked into the air intakes of cars and setting fire to the paper filter elements and then the whole car... no need for it, use your ashtray filth-monger bad breath stinky person

They'll never ban it, they'd lose too much money. Much better to petition to get fuel duty added onto fags and taken off of fuel!

I was a 40 a day for 20 years. Gave up about 18 months ago, and now HATE the smell of cigarettes. I can't wait for the day it is completely banned in public places. Ie pubs,restaurants etc.

 

I didn't realise how smelly horrible and totally antisocial smoking is. Took the death of my Mum at the ripe old age of 57 to make me stop.

 

When I rode my motorbike, I lost count the amount of times I got hit by fag ends. They explode when they hit you.

In the UK, the tobacco industry generated over £10bn in tax revenue in 1998.

 

The NHS across the UK spentd £65.4bn in 2002-03, making it the second biggest area of government spending after social security. Above-inflation increases meant the NHS budget was more than £25bn higher than it was in 1999-2000.

 

So take this back to 1999-2000 when the budget was then £40bn. Tobacco taxes raised £10bn or 25% of the NHS budget. Without tobacco taxes where would the £10bn have come from??

 

Although a smoker, I do not throw my fag ends out of the window when any other vehicle (and especially bikes) is close. But that's just me. I go outside to smoke and support fair anti smoking bans in public places. Define a public place. However smoking is still legal unlike some activities such as the current poll on this site shows, about speeds you have driven at (a lot of which will have been on public roads). But hey each to their own.

 

But back to the topic, a driver was reported for throwing litter out of his window and is expecting a summons. This can also be applied if people think you are driving too fast, you can be reported.

I would seriously doubt that. As a non smoker the stink that emanates from my clothes the next day after being in the company of smokers is foul. Far worse than any body odour problems I have ever encountered.

Not all but most non smokers are hypocrits. At work the company set up dedicated smoking area's in the staff canteen. Now the smoking area is small in comparison to the non smoking area.

But its amazing how all the non smokers (some of those were complianing) now cram into the smoking area with the smokers.

Lets hope they don't have a smoking area in pubs or we will end up with the odd few in the whole of a pub and the rest of the patrons crammed in the smoking area's

Sorry mate, but whether or not you wait for there to be no witnesses, you are still littering, just forget for a moment that it's a cigarette butt. Granted you've aleady shown more consideration than most by waiting, but that's not the real point here.

 

This thread started as a littering summons, and has turned into an anti-smoking rant. Well I think that sums up too many peoples attitudes to smoking, and that it's "OK" to litter cigarette butts.

I smoke because it makes me look big and clever, and i like the fact that when i wake up the next morning, my mouth tastes like i've been licking the nightclub carpet for two hours........... These comments are in fact false. I completely agree with comments some of you have made, yes i am a smoker. But try Dj'ing in a nightclub for four hours with everyone around you smoking, and not smoking yourself. Ok, this is habit i know, but it would be alot easier for me to give up if they did ban it in public places! First baby on the way in march, so smoking isn't an option anymore. Any advice on quiting greatly appreciated! Moking skills.
