Compulsory third party insurance for vehicles used on track, competitively or on none competitive track days. Being one of the world's greatest Eurosceptics it comes as no surprise that a European court is further meddling in our affairs, please read the RAC MSA stuff in the link above and respond as you see fit, time is now short. Scooter
Won't we be able to escape this sort of thing post actual Brexit or will we still be affected by EU courts/law?
el_bandido
We will have absorbed EU law into our own (at the point brexit happens). We will have the power to strike it down though. I'd also be interested to know how this will be enforced.
Chris Wilson
I am told God knows, but I believe even he may be unsure Depends whether it's a "hard Brexit" with all ties cut, or a plastic one with us remaining in many ways. Needless to say I want a hard Brexit with zero ties. This Catalonia kerfuffle is giving the EU some jitters, which is good, the more they have on their plate the less time they have to play silly buggers with us. I believe they hope procrastination may see a government change in the Uk and a plot to undo the referendum vote. They want and need our money! el_bandido
Even if it is hard brexit, we will be absorbing current EU law into our own, then (last I understood) there will be a review.
Chris Wilson
We have until October 20th to respond to this important EC consultation, details of which are attached - if we fail to secure the amendment we seek then the likely outcome is that all motorsport activity, in every EU Member State, will cease. All involved in the business and organisation of European motorsport need to act NOW to overcome this genuine threat to our own future and that of our employees and sport, from the unintended consequences of action taken by the European Commission (EC). The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), along with others including the UK Department for Transport, has been fighting to resolve this issue for more than two years, on behalf of our members and the wider EU motorsport community. Now, with your personal leadership and action, it is possible for us to resolve this. In simple terms, the EC plans to issue a new Motor Insurance Directive, as a result of which all EU Member States must put into their National Law compulsory and unlimited third-party liability insurance to cover personal injury between motorsport competitors and car-to-car damage during any competition – from Formula One, Moto GP, World Rally to karting, historic and grass roots, whether regulated by the FIA or FIM or not. However such widespread unlimited new insurance is not currently and, we understand, will not in the future be available - so motorsport will be unable to continue anywhere in the EU. Please respond BY OCTOBER 20th to the EC Review Consultation: https://ec.europa.eu/info/consultations/finance-2017-motor-insurance_en by using the simple ‘MIA Response Guidelines’ which can be downloaded here: https://gallery.mailchimp.com/e1289ed3fbdcc65cd53ca887f/files/3618f36c-0926-4b99-9279-a8955cdb6d91/MIA_Response_guidance_to_Vnuk_MID_EU_Cconsultation_V4.pdf This will take LESS THAN TEN MINUTES – a short time commitment to keep motorsport alive, and the jobs it supports, in place. It is most important that you estimate, if motorsport were to cease, how many jobs will be lost directly from your organisation and indirectly by your suppliers or the sport, as this significant economic impact will influence the European Commission. We really must work together to make the European Commission fully aware of the economic importance of motorsport and the employment which our sport and industry provides across the European Union. Please forward this email to fellow drivers, friends, car preparation companies and other motorsport contacts. jagman
This is typical EU , there will be countries taking a view on motorsport who basically dont have any motorsport...... for the whole EU , how about a mandatory insurance for skiing ? apparently that snow and ice is damn slippery stuff . The one place I can think that really needs insurance is the IoM TT , but the IoM is outside the EU and it would not be enforceable . Try and suggest a mandatory ski insurance and watch the alpine countries kick off .....one for all and every man for himself ...that would be the EU then !!!
